You know the bore and stroke so find the area of the bore multiply by stroke then multiply by 6 cylinders and that is the displacement.

It's not even that hard. We already know the displacement is 3400 cubic centimeters.

1 in = 2.54 cm

cube both sides: 1 cubic inch = 16.387 cc


207.5 cubic inches

BTW, 2.2L is 134 cubic inches and 2.4L is 146 cubic inches.

If anyone wants to find out how many cubic light years are in a can of pop or something like that, I can do that too... B)

The 3400 hundred is usually a rounded number, but that way works to.

They list the displacement as 3350cc. That only calculates out to 204.43 cubic inches. So 205 still seems high, but is much better than the 207.

They also list bore and stroke as 92x84mm, so the volume of the cylinder would be:

pi * bore radius^2 * stroke = 3.14 * 46^2 * 84 * 6 cylinders = 3350395 cubic mm

So there's the proof for the 3350cc.

Bore and stroke in inches is 3.622 x 3.307

Displacement that way calculates out to 34.07 per cylinder, 204.44 total.

So really, it's not quite 205, but it would depend on how accurate 99Alero needs it.

And FYI, a can of pop is .000000000000000375 cubic light years. I just couldn't help myself. :P

Yeah, I'd say 205. 207 would be 3392cc. Seems like they took the 3.4L and did the conversion (like I did the first time). But I'd go with 205 cuz all the info on that GM site calculates out to 204.4 cubic inches.

Sorry... I think that the pop can is great. You can make it look even better by saying it's 3.75 x 10 ^ -16 cubic light years! It's easier to remember that way... that is if you really want people to look at you funny. :)

You know... looking at it like that... I think you've made an error in your calculation.... a light year is 9.227 x 10 ^ 15 m. Cubed = 7.856 x 10 ^ 47 m^3. One pop can = 335 cm ^ 3 (based on 1 ml = 1 cm^3), which is equal to 0.000335 m^3. Thus, taking

3.35 x 10 ^ -4 m^3
7.86 x 10 ^ 47 m^3/ly^3

= 4.26 x 10 ^ -52 cubic lightyears in a can of pop
