Bad oil leak
Hey guys,
My car started leaking oil really bad today. I popped the hood open, and looks like the Oil Pressure Sending Unit is leaking. Although this is not me, this video shows exactly what is happening... Is this something I can fix myself, or should I take it in? What would be involved in the repair? Thanks. |
You can easily replace the sending unit yourself.

Wow man, first Ive seen of that! But hell yes, easy fix bro!! Threads in/out same as a normal bolt
|
Just picked up a new oil pressure switch from local parts store and a special socket to get it off. It was pretty easy on/off. Total was about $20 for both.
I guess the connection between the metal threading and the plastic part wears down over time. I was running on about a quart of oil toward the end. Thanks for the help guys! |
Yup. Did you use teflon tape?
|
I used that port to feed oil to my supercharger... only reason Im familiar with it! Like I said, never seen this happen before...ever!
|
Neither have I
|
exact same thing happened to me... when I put in my triple pillar pod with the mechanical oil pressure, I tee'd that and within a week I was spewing oil like crazy... had a spare one on another block I had, changed it out in about 10 minutes and no issues since!!

Seen it. Happend on an old 305 I had in my old pavement pounder. Seen a few customers cars do that too. However not to the extent of an oil leak complaint. Just dirty and smelly. Mmgt, sent u pm to personal email .

It had something similar to teflon tape on it out of the box. |
Oh okay.

Happened to me while driving last winter. Stupid me kept driving it. Got to my shop and because of that I have a constant ticking noise from the cams from oil starvation
|
Wow that's a lot of oil!!
I see you already fixed it, but yeah, easy fix on the 4 banger. Little more involved on the V6 (more in the way and right by the starter) |
