Fuel pressure...

I wanted to change my fuel pressure regulator but i got to release the fuel pressure first , now i know were the "valve" pressure is but do i really need to use a pressure gauge to release it?

Can i just use a flat screw driver & release it that way (like you would do to get air out of a tire)?

I know ill splash so gas a little this way but can i do this or the pressure is to great for that?

Would suck having to buy a fuel pressure gauge for one time use only unless it's real cheap to buy , like ~$20?

Thx!

  1. pull fuel relay
  2. crank car over
  3. fuel pressure = 0

On the fuel rail close where the serp belt is, there is a valve with a black cap. Unscrew this cap, relieve fuel pressure with a screw driver.. A rag is very helpful for this because some gasoline may leak out. When you're about to start your car, turn the ignition to ON without starting it and give it 10 seconds to repressurize.

I know where the valve is i was just wondering if they were to much pressure to do this using a screw driver...
Since i am not going to do this before next week end (Sunday) ill probably going to buy the pressure gauge anyhow since i am going to use it again when ill be doing my LIM gasket later this summer in my 2 weeks vacation
As for waiting 10sec before starting the car... that was a giving but i though on waiting 30sec. or so

No i ment diesels are like 35000 psi.. if you popped it open it would literally shoot through your hand and out the other side... And you would die.
