I got my oil changed today, but the check oil light is still on and the alarm still sounds. Is there a way to reset it or something?

Spilner521 03-21-2006 12:55 AM

dont start the engine but turn the key to "on". open the driver door and take off the fuse panel cover. press the reset button either once or twice until you see the "change oil" light start to blink. then press and hold the reset button....the light will stop blinking, you'll hear 5 ping sounds then the light will turn off.

^ He is 99.9% correct,

You actually have to hold the reset button and count to five, then push reset button once...(one of the warning lights will now be flashing), keep pressing the reset button to cycle the light till the oil change light starts to flash then HOLD the reset button until you hear a several chimes----> YOUR DONE !!

Or you have to turn the key on and fully press and release the accelerator 3 times within 5 seconds and you'll hear a chime. My 2004 doesn't have the button.

positive...my 2004 doesn't have a button either...neither do the intrigues...this is the way you have to turn them off with the newer ones.

I saw the tech do this after my oil was changed in FL

X3, I had to look in the manual to find it when we changed my oil as I thought there was a button too...lol

doubleN0alero 03-21-2006 01:07 PM

my manual still says to use the reset button...too bad there isn't one...i called my old work and they give me the heads up on how to turn it off.

littlebandito 03-21-2006 01:47 PM

Kthx, Im not sure wether I have the button or have to do the gas peddel trick, but Ill take a look

littlebandito 03-21-2006 03:07 PM

Ok, the poor whiteboy doesnt get it. I tried to find the button on my fuse box, but to no avail. The diagram on the inside of the cover said there was one, but I cant find it. Maybe someone can point it out to me...if I even have one? If not, as far as the gas peddle thing goes, just on right...not like,...on?

doubleN0alero 03-21-2006 03:08 PM

just do the gas pedal thing...my diagram says i should have one too but i dont...i think they were just reusing that sticker cause they had so many left over...

Alero2k4 03-21-2006 03:23 PM

If I remember right, you said you have an 04, so do the gas pedal and I will bet it works.

Roguer 03-22-2006 01:34 PM

the gas pedal aslo works on the 01's. mine has the habit of coming on, even though the oil is perfectly fine

doubleN0alero 03-22-2006 01:36 PM

the pedal will work with all years
