In theory, you could make the pistons work for you, but you'd have to be very careful with your tuning.
The static compression ratio will be 11.5:1 with 3400 heads, and about 10.85:1 with 3500 heads.
The pistons are gas-ported, have an anti-friction coating on the skirts, and the tops have been coated with TBC by SwainTech.

Those are very nice pistons Matt, and the swaintech coatings is awesomesauce! However, I have the entire stroker assembly from John's failed build. So really the only thing i'm lacking for my built motor would be some badass heads. I know they will need a lot of work just for my camshaft for clearancing and what not.

Bumping this back up now that the new mill is mostly together...

mfuller 12-18-2013 10:31 PM

SwainTech TBC (thermal barrier coating) on exhaust ports (also combustion chambers, valve faces and piston tops) and copper-spray coated Cometic MLS head gaskets.

mfuller 12-18-2013 10:31 PM

Close up of exhaust port. These are ported 3500 LX9 heads from WOT-TECH (in fact, most of the parts - heads, pistons, connecting rods, pushrods, intake manifolds, etc.) came from WOT-TECH. I don't recall what level/stage the portwork is, but they're pretty high-zoot.

The cam is in there somewhere. No installed shots of the DRTC as the front cover was already installed. Camshaft specs are on page 1.

mfuller 12-18-2013 10:33 PM

Intake port and Manley stainless steel valves.

mfuller 12-18-2013 10:34 PM

Overall. Metal LIM gaskets, custom pushrods, PAC 1518 springs, Manley titanium retainers. OEM rocker arms and lifters.

How's this for Oldsmobile heritage? 442 head castings!

Thanks.
Enclosed trailer is coming to get the car on Christmas Eve.
As the motor is being swapped, also being installed is the Quaife LSD, NGK AFX Wideband, and a proper set of pedals for a manual transmission.

tw0123 12-18-2013 11:50 PM

Very Nice... who is doing the build? and what are you doing with your current motor?
I am waiting for USPS to drop off my cam, pushrods and valve springs... I still need bigger injectors, heads, etc, as well as waiting for Milzy to get the drtc and timing cover finished for me... :)

Build is being done by AES Racing in Elk Grove Village, IL (http://www.aesracing.net).
It'd be nice if I could sell the old motor and re-coup a portion of what this one cost.

But you are the official sedan hater, so when this gets installed, you'll kinda be at war with yourself....right?
