what would be involved in converting drums to disks

BLK03GXS 04-28-2004 06:36 PM

I am wondering the same thing, prolly the calaper, disk, maybe the spindle assy, would maybe want to swap the master cyl.. not too sure.. i want to do a rear disk swappy...
my buddy's dad has salvage rights... i may just try to get a 99+ alero or G/a with rear disks... and do the swap... among other things lol

StealthAlero 04-28-2004 06:45 PM

i thought all aleros came with 4 discs or is it just the GLS, :D lucky me then.

BLK03GXS 04-28-2004 06:57 PM

Yea... u luck bastard...lol
Most aleros are 4whl dsk... it is a standard option wtih the 3.4 v6....
the 4banger cars..( i have one) dont come with them.. at least standard...

Sundayalero 04-28-2004 07:14 PM

I have a 3.4L V6 with big ugly drums.... Uggghhh!

BLK03GXS 04-28-2004 07:38 PM

what year is it? i know for 03 with the 3.4 you got 4whl abs disks

alero168 04-28-2004 07:48 PM

yeah it depends on the year not the engine or model, i have a '01 GX and it has 4 disc abs... i saw this today that there are kits to convert from drums to disc this isnt for aleros but you get the idea...

BLK03GXS 04-28-2004 08:10 PM

well yea it does kinda matter the engine.. because when i was lookin at gettin a v6 alero, Vs a 4cyl it wasnt an option to get 4whl disk abs.

'04 aler-ho 04-28-2004 09:13 PM

all i have is an 04 gl1. so the 4, auto, and nasty drums

alero168 04-28-2004 09:41 PM

blk when were you shopping for it, b/c if it was recently then discs wont be standard but like i said if its 01 possibly 02 or older then youre gonna get discs standard.

Seire 04-30-2004 01:36 PM

Interesting. I have an 03 with the 3.4 and rear drums. :(

b-spot 04-30-2004 01:47 PM

yup, no drums until 03, and engine doesn't matter, just trim level.

'04 aler-ho 05-02-2004 04:53 PM

overdrive75 05-03-2004 06:39 AM

You will probably need the proportioning valve from the rear disc brake car as well.

'04 aler-ho 05-03-2004 11:57 AM
