the biggest question when it comes to the 2.4 is what size TB. what size is too much? it seems noone has this answer. which sucks.

much torque was picked up with the intake and being 3" all the way through the tb would still be the smallest part.
so veloicty would be high still.
some torque may be lost but the top end would be really nice and thats where the 2.4L lacks.
actually as provin with the 3.4L the larger TB still made more torque than stock.
fuel supplement will prolly be needed with all the extra air though like an adjustible fuel pressure regulator.
if torque is still not what you like, an underdrive crank pulley will gian you some back.

the 2.4L has a major lack of top end and the TB, CAI and HO manifold majorly help out the weak areas.
trust me its not over kill.
oh and the LS1 comes stock with a 75mm tb
the 3.4L dohc has a 65mm stock and benefits well from a larger unit.
65mm for a small block is a bit small.
and dont forget we are also talking DOHC which can flow a bit more air than a pushrod engine

Yeah I know, when they designed the 2.4L they gave it smaller ports in the head, smaller throttle body, longer stroke, smaller bore (for some reason), more restrictive intake/exhaust manifolds and cam's that peak lower in the RPM band all in the name of higher gas velocity, I.E. more torque and at lower RPMs, which is good because it makes a more streetable engine, but that's where variable valve timing comes in really handy because you can use aggressive cams for high RPM usage and obviously more horsepower but retard the timing in the lower RPM range for better torque... too bad GM is just finally catching on to this more-than-decade-old "trick"
