Anyone familiar with this TSB??

I have a 04' Alero. 71,000 mi. Been having these symptoms for awhile now; popping sound when turning as well as braking. I have already replaced both front struts, mounts and springs after the dealer suggested so. Sick of sticking money into the car when it's not fixing the problem. The popping happens when I am in reverse and turning to the left. Not any other way, unless I hit a bump.

Anyone familiar with this?

I had the very same noise and Replaced Struts, Control arms, sway arm links. Then I saw this TSB, I replaced the brackets and bushings on the sway arm, and guess what? It still makes the noise! F*** it, turn the damn radio up! LOL

My bad, idk why it doesn't work but I deleted it.
Anyways, it described the same thing that is posted above.

Silver SLP 12-12-2012 04:19 PM

mmorello82, does yours only do it in reverse?

Greencoupe2.2 12-12-2012 05:03 PM

mine did that replaced every thing, and finnally determined it was a bad cv joint, which for our cars case its cheaper just to replace the entire axle shaft assembly

Silver SLP 12-12-2012 05:09 PM

I was wondering if it was a cv joint but the shop didn't think it was.

If you don't mind me asking, about how much did that run ya?

Redog 12-12-2012 06:34 PM

I had a banging only when turning and it was worse going into driveways and stuff.

Sway bar bolts broke off ;)

That 100% sounds like a cv joint avg price on cv axels urs is the shorter one thats needed the left side which is around 100$ plus 1 hour labour max ( really only takes 30 mins to do )

Silver SLP 12-12-2012 08:43 PM

robalero -
What makes you believe it's the cv joint for sure? Not being a smart a$$ just asking :)

Greencoupe2.2 12-13-2012 12:28 AM

i bought a new axle shaft for around 100 at advance but got it around 80 with an online promo

mmorello82 12-14-2012 04:38 AM

Mine does it in either direction. Maybe I will try replacing a CV axle. That and the Hubs is the only thing I HAVEN'T done yet! lol
