yea, it's easy. and dont worry about breaking the orange reflector. i broke all of the ones i have done besides a couple. who cares? not like you'd ever take the time to put them back in.
and i used an industrial automotive clear silicone, works great.

alerocity 06-15-2004 05:57 PM

do u remember the name of the silicone
where did u buy it from

sound_xtreme 06-15-2004 07:17 PM

I'm finally going to do mine this weekend as well

OK Install complete.. what a damn time consuming mod! took me a long time.. the first headlight took me forever.. 2nd one was way quicker (learn from the 1st one)

to reiterate some points ive read on this thread that were useful to me:

1 - the oven trick posted above is GOLD.. though i put em in the oven on 175 deg for 15 minutes -- take the headlight out and go go go quickly to seperate the halfs.

2 - the freezer trick posted above is really good too -- only i put just the plastic peice in the freezer to get the silicon off before reassembly.

3 - when reinstalling the chrome peice back in the plastic peice.. i used hot glue gun to make the initial bond, and then silicon2 over it for added protection.

4 - my silicon was crazy.. so left a chunk still in there.. but loaded the GE silicon 2 crap like crazy.. and then when i sealed the lamp back up, put another bead of silicon 2 over the seal.

very happy though :) day of hard work! hehehe.. but broke one orange reflector cuz i got overzealous -- hey is there any reason to keep em?? im never putting them back in.. just thinking i shud chuck the one remaining one in the garbage.

wow that was tiring...... and yeah nothing on mine came apart *easily* -- 2000 GX if anyone wanna start counting which type of car has retarded silicon.

thx for the DIYer and the help.

Question:

the 1 bulb (bulb type 194) that was behind the reflector -- what colour is it stock? white/amber? aka does it need to be changed once cleared?

my bulbs have looked toasty since day 1, i don't know when they blew out

a2k 06-20-2004 02:27 PM

my passenger side 194 bulb is like metallic looking (looks kule!) but noticed it doenst' work either!! woops! and my drivers side is a plain old normal 194 transparent glass bulb!

-- i'll snap a pic for comparison.. the metalic one looks really cool!

OK just cuz i figured it was venturing off the topic of clear corners -- i started a new thread in the appropriate forum and posted the pics of the bulbs there:

OK some guys at work are freaking me out about the moisture: :o :o

If there is a leak in my silicon seal and moisture gets in -- how do you go about clearing out the moisture?? do u have to open up the headlight again? OR can i just take the headlight out, remove the low/high beam bulbs, and put a hairdryer to it or something?!?!

it's going to rain here 2nite/tomarrow so im thinking i'm goign to put another bead of silicon over the seam just to be certain! (and MAKE SURE no gaps) -- let it cure for 24 hrs (meaning i'll have to take the bus to work tomarrow - booo!)

but i finally saw the clear's in the daylight.. they look wicked!! man i love my car!

leroBob 06-21-2004 12:11 PM

if u use the hair dryer trick water will get back in. ur best bet will be to redo them or it and take ur time. I was perinoid as well but u more than likely be allright.

Is there anyplace to get this done? I would love to have the clear corners but I am pretty sure I would mess something up if I tried to do it myself even though it sounds easy

no place produces them. you might be able to find a member that will do them for ya for the right price if you are that worried

langejd 07-12-2004 01:28 PM

thanks for the reply, I will have to look into that

ImSoBored 07-13-2004 08:27 PM

its really not that hard at all, if you break the crome peice at the tabs(which I did) the silicone will fix it right up, yeah if youve got moisture, youll have to redo them, just use more silicone

why?

you'd lose way too much light IMO

sound_xtreme 09-30-2004 06:50 PM

yes alero18 tinted his orange

tenny 09-30-2004 08:49 PM

a bunch of the ones i've seen look like they have a smokey finish on them and it looked really good, and there was a guy on here that sells them and some of his look darker then stock. I was wondering about losing the light with the ones he sells, thats why i was asking if anyone had done it or not yet.

mobs241 09-30-2004 09:16 PM

do you mean tinting like htis? cause this is just painting the bezel.
