HA!!! no more stupid DRL

I hate DRL's so I was determined to find out how to disable them. Take Relay 22 under the hood and snip pin 78 not 78a just 78 and plug it back in. No more DRL, the ARM module doesn't care about seeing power go to the high beams all it cares about is see power and ground from the relay.

acold7dusta 08-03-2006 11:32 PM

so how do u turn the lights on?

alerocar01 08-03-2006 11:35 PM

buy a new relay

doubleN0alero 08-03-2006 11:35 PM

electrical tape works much easier...

NFS 08-03-2006 11:40 PM

Here's the thing, The ARM module sends out a signal to to R22 provides low power to the high beams in the daytime. When pin 87 is snipped it cuts power on that circuit. Your low beam and high beam will still work.

doubleN0alero 08-03-2006 11:41 PM

the tape just cuts off the signal

NFS 08-03-2006 11:43 PM

Just snip it and plug it back in

Redog 08-03-2006 11:57 PM

Which pin do you clip to have hi and low beams on at the smae time (when switched of course)

sound_xtreme 08-04-2006 02:49 AM

ya, this is a known fact. i thought there was a how to somewhere on here. brent does it almost every year to peoples cars at ASS. ive done it for a couple local grand am and aleros here

Redog 08-04-2006 03:15 AM

I've seen the thread, but when I had the time to do it, I lost it :(

Mr_White 08-04-2006 04:35 PM

does this work on all years

because the 99 uses high beams as the DRL's

Is this the one ya mean? http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showt...ght=highs+lows Here is a website for info on disabling DRLs http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html .

AsianAlero 06-01-2007 11:29 PM

NO it don't..................Brent did mine and now my lights are effed up. Not brent's fault but more the 99 fault. it worked for awhile but now the high beams are dim as shit and on with the lows and a SVS light also. It's just effed up.

Cliff8928 06-02-2007 12:35 PM

you should be able to just unplug the DRL resistor to get them to go off.

strtrydr 06-02-2007 05:34 PM

^ nope you will get a damn SVS light

scott i dont think its the fact that i got rid of your DRL's thats effecting your high beams.

cutting off the drl's the way i do them buy slipping just a piece of electrical tape between the contact in the DRL relay in no way should make a difference in your highbeams.

putting the tape between the contacts only results in the relay not switching "on" when it gets the signal from the computer to turn the DRL's on.

you have another issue with your high beams and its not from getting rid of your drl's.

my car is a 99 as well and ive never had an issue with my high beams after i killed my DRL's

Oldsman 06-02-2007 07:42 PM

i have replaced bulbs and not the cause. never had an issue til you did the drl bypass. like i said i am not blaming you.

in the daytime my drl's are on but if i start it up in the garage and the lights come on it throws a SVS and then the DRL's go out. my high beams are way dim and the low beam on the driver side also. also highs and lows are on when the lights come on also.

i really need it to get scanned. i have even replaced relays and still same issue.

like i said never had an issue before but now i do right after it was done. so something happened.

Cliff8928 06-04-2007 01:26 PM

Did you check the headlight grounds for that issue? I just recently had to clean up the splice-pack on my drivers side fender because my turn signal went all crazy.

SLVRalero 06-22-2007 02:45 PM

I Got A 2001 Alero And I've Been Meaning To Do This Simple Mod, But I Can't Find Relay 22 Under The Hood, I Need Some Help. Can Anyone Help Me Out? Im Tried Of The Low Yellow Drl's.
