Door Upgrade

So i finally got sick enough of the lousy 4x6s GM placed in the front of our cars and decided to give it a facelift. Stopped at the American Bass HQ in Maple Heights today and picked up a few speakers:

6 6.5" SQ-65CBs
2 SQ-T2 tweeters

Ill be building the panels tomorrow. Im not sure if i can add the 4x6 to the panel as well. would that work? i dont see why it wouldnt. updates to come

Are all of those going on the door panels??

You're gonna need some 26z and candy paint, too, if so. Lol j/k. But don't do anything with those stock 4x6s.. throw them away.

MattismodderX 05-09-2010 01:43 AM

yea 3 on each door + the tweeter. i was gonna throw the 4x6 on the door as well just for extra cone area. would make the design look pretty cool

RisenequinoX 05-09-2010 01:53 AM

cant wait to see this when its done

Have you thought about using kick panels? 2 will fit into the door much easier then 3 http://www.qlogicdirect.com/index.ph...1765564fbdee39. Amp? Crossovers? Tweeter placement?

matt... i hate you with jealousy.

<-- eager to see production pics.

I would of only went with 2 6.5's per door to maintain a normal ohm load.

i was thinking of adding the 4x6s to even out the load. does that work? or even the 5.25s in the back

and i didnt have enough cash on me to get another pair

the tweeters came with a crossover, and i have a sony 4 channel amp im pickin up tomorrow. 300rms over 4 channels.

Ryan from Ohio 05-09-2010 11:04 AM

That wont work.

Because its a different speaker. Must all be the same speakers to function in that fashion.

MattismodderX 05-09-2010 11:11 AM

this is how i was gonna wire it

even with each @ 2ohm this wont work?

Ryan from Ohio 05-09-2010 11:17 AM

You will have like 1.5 Ohm load.

It will work providing the amp can hang with it.

MattismodderX 05-09-2010 11:19 AM

Ok so fk it. ill add 4 to each door with matching tweeters. why not go ape shit. gonna have 2 per door hooked up temporarily until i pick up another pair with more tweeters

Afugy 05-09-2010 11:49 AM

I thought those are 8 ohm speakers? 3 of those will give you 2.6ohms per channel.

MattismodderX 05-09-2010 11:52 AM

yes they are. so is that ok then?

Ryan from Ohio 05-09-2010 12:31 PM

Ah

Well that will work. Its just an odd ohm load.

MattismodderX 05-09-2010 02:36 PM

sweet. im glad i dont need to drop even more $ on this. apart from the extra tweeters. i think ill add 4 more tweeters on the headunits built in amp, but thats a project for another day xD

Fi-Alero 05-09-2010 08:42 PM

I'm doing something similar.

Two DD 6.5s per door along with 2 DD tweeters.
400rms a side. Should be pretty loud. :scpimp:

So it figures just as soon as the doors come to place my sub's tinsel decides to explode. the terminal got knocked loose and it touched the basket, thus melting it (pics of the dmg below)

The doors are all ready to be cut for tomorrow. spent the time today planning out how it would fit with the contour lines and such. got a few tricks left up my sleeve but thats for when its going into the door.

drawing up the lines to see where to cut the panel

Aluminum siding piece used to make a mock up cutout so it was easily fine tune-able

Speaker layout. just fits

on the wood

where the tinsel is destroyed

never really got a good shot of the sub and i liked it in that light
