More spring questions

I hate to be "that guy" and all by making more threads so i'll try to be quick

I have a mostly stock 2.4 2001 coupe. Its a GL with the 15" steel wheels. I am looking to lower it. Ive looked around and it seems the Canuck Motorsports springs give about a 1.7" or more drop. My quetsion is, If I get them and throw them on with my stock 15" wheels, am I going to run in to any weird suspension problems... Or is the car going to be too low to go over a speed bump or something. lol

Thanks in advance ;)

you are going to need new struts as well

Philbar71 06-13-2011 01:21 AM

Im well aware of strut issue. Rears have been replaced with GR-2s already. They will be replaced with AGXs and I have one front AGX already, going to order the second one shortly.

your car would be low enough anyways to hit speed bumps.

ive got my 15's on still because I can't find any 17's I want to buy and I still scrape on a lot of stuff with the Eibachs 1.5" drop

Philbar71 06-13-2011 04:48 PM

I know its going to scrape, the air dam and possibly bumper, but thats all cosmetic. I mean going that low on 15"s wont make it un drivable will it?

jawa 06-13-2011 09:03 PM

well im running 18 inch rims and i have eibachs on the way, ill let you know if i scrape

I have intrax springs which are as low or lower than canuck springs, plus a kit and I rarely rub or scrape. You do have to change the way you drive over bumps or through dips. Like in off-roading, you should approach it one wheel at a time, not straight on. A lowered Alero is still fairly tall compared to some production cars like the the 370z. You should also learn how to drive in reverse really good because sometimes you will just find that back alley or driveway with a crazy angle :)

robalero 06-14-2011 05:11 AM

i live in pothole central, no its not going to be undriveable at all still very driveable but you will scrape on stuff and when taking a big driveway make sure you go sideways to go in or out

BUMP ! I would also be very interested in doing a sportier suspension..
Ill have to find out how much the suspension, and struts are >
I have the GX, I dont know if anyone else on here as one aswell, but do I have a sportier suspension already ? Even a line across the road, my car rides SO rough ! Backroads/Bumpy roads are out of the question

Philbar71 06-14-2011 11:27 AM

So I shouldnt have any problem with that low of a drop on my 15" steelies right?

robalero 06-14-2011 03:14 PM

no you won't at all phil.

pj if its that bad your suspension is shot, to make your suspension sportier get a rear strut bar first and then a front one or both at the same time and ull notice a big difference I am trying to find myself a set ( that I know as fact you can get from sunfires and cavi's )

Shouldnt the garage of told me when they certified it two months ago.. ?
That would really suck if thats the case :(
Do you have a guesstimate of how much it will cost us ?

robalero 06-14-2011 04:17 PM

just cause it passes the look test ( their not leaking ) doesn't mean their not shot. whats the km's on the car? mine has 246k on it and their not leaking and technically pass our inspections here in NB but they are shot.

new struts = big money depending on what you buy and what your paying for labour

pjwallington 06-14-2011 04:24 PM

250 something.

might buy you two cheapy ones. your suspension rpo codes are FE1, FE2, FE3. the higher the number the sportier they are. the rpo list is on your spare tire cover. my car has fe3 and handles so much better then my old one (fe1)

Since he has the GX it will probably have the FE1. I have a GL and mine is the FE2.

And I just orderd them directly from Canuck Motorsports. Anybody know how long it takes for them to get across the boarder?

Cliff8928 06-15-2011 02:39 AM

Not necessarily, my GX is FE2.

Math-u 06-15-2011 03:05 AM
