02 sensor extension??

When I get my headers (pacesetters) will I need an o2 sensor extension???...cause if I do I want to order it before I comes next week

[ion] C2 07-10-2008 06:55 PM

likely, stock is very short

Alerosaint 07-10-2008 06:59 PM

ok....on it

[ion] C2 07-10-2008 07:01 PM

the stock one is short and connects to only one primary on the rear side of the engine (cyl. 4) and the pacesetter's is at the collector, farther away

that's what i'm basing my assumption off of fyi lol

and if you install it yourself take some pictures for a nice How-To on Aleromod Upgrades. :)

Actually the stock O2 sensor is at the collector and reads from all four runners in the stock exhaust manifold. But the Pacesetter's collector is further away than stock, so I would also assume you'd need to extend the harness. Hopefully someone with a header will chime in here and say for sure.

oooo rly? damn.

Yes you need extension. your short about 2"

Vinalero 07-11-2008 03:49 PM

Any suggested place to get this extension?

Alerocharged07 07-11-2008 06:07 PM

http://www.casperselectronics.com/

For some reason or another the shop didn't need the 02 wire extension
that I gave them from caspers. This was during the 2.4 pacesetter header install. I have no idea if you actually need the extension or not.

You don't really need to get extension if you really stretch the wire, but there will be no slack. Not good if your engine shakes quite a bit.

Vinalero 07-11-2008 08:48 PM

I may be completely blind, but I could not find the extention in the site.

Also, they sell their wires around 95 bucks?! what a ripoff lol

[ion] C2 07-11-2008 09:51 PM

Or you could get some wire of the same gauge and splice it in..

Quoted from above mentioned site:

"You cannot cut and splice oxygen sensor wiring since this can permanently damage the sensor and considerably reduce accuracy of the signal"

dont know how true that is, but would probly just be easier to get the extension.

[ion] C2 07-11-2008 11:42 PM

If you use the wrong gauge wire. Otherwise solder away. Same reason when you use a tap splice with a different sized wire running off the narrowband O2 sensor for the air/fuel gauge that it throws a random SES/Trac Off saying the system is too lean. Lowers the voltage or current or something, I'm mechanical, not an electrical engineer.

I got a shop to put on my header on my 2.4 one day and they extended my O2 sensor, just used same gauge wire and did it themselves, no pre-fabbed extension peice.

it's not true, I do it with every o2 sensor I buy. The o2 sensor runs fine, they only burn out when I literally burn them out

whiterider00 07-13-2008 09:51 AM

alrighty then. thats good because when i installed my WAI, i ended up having to extend the IAT, and wasnt sure if cutting and soldering in new wire would screw anything up. thanks for clearing it up.
