ANOTHER suspension overhaul

This time im doing it right..... i went with the KYB struts (OE replacement ones) and H&R springs the first time....now im gonna switch to the KYB AGX, keep the H&R and get better strut mounts (thinking the KYB ones? are they good?)

also, i was looking at relocating my battery.....gonna be getting a yellowtop soon....would this kit work good?

regular mounts seem fine, all mine are new and haven't noticed anything sub-par

except for the time when i had them loose haha

The KYB mounts, unlike their struts, are poor quality and people have had issues with them breaking within a short period of time, you can read up on this on the n-body forums. I think most people go with monroe or moog strut mounts.

Also have a question for you. Are you making the switch to KYB AGX because you had a problem with the H&R springs and KYB GR-2 combo? Or do you just want the adjustment and better struts? I have H&R springs and KYB GR-2 struts ready to be installed in the spring, but I am wondering whether to spend the extra $200 and upgrade to AGX if there are going to be problems with the other ones. Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know about the mounts....will def look at other ones. Im switching cause i've had some issues with this set up....but there are other people on this site with the GR-2s that have no issues at all...i just wanna have better ones/with the adjustment...idk if my spring isnt seated right on the back right of the car but i dont like the sound of it lol

Sensa-Trac has mounts that I am using right now that seem to be holding up OK. I, for some reason, am really freakin' hard on the rear ones so these are fairly new. Three months or so I'd say and so far, so good....

I'm with you...I went with gr2 and sprint springs and now I wished I had spent some extra and gone with h&r and agx..but now I'll probably wait for coilovers from wot-tech.

Ben is making a set of coilovers with AGX struts checkout the post on 60v6 And just sold the first test set, they just need to work out rear spring rates So if the sway group buy happens we will have the best we can have for the nbody platform

Yea...but i still want ride comfort....with coilovers good luck holding a coffee and driving without burning yourself ;)

xXManwhoreXx 12-19-2011 11:19 PM

He said you cant even adjust ride height with the coilovers.... I would much rather have lowering springs than 800 !bucks stuck at stock ride height

I think this new setup will be awesome

mmorello82 12-20-2011 04:38 AM

I've learned since I started working on cars that there are just some brands you stay with. Oil filters = Wix, Suspension and Steering = Moog, Bearings = Timken, etc.

unchained01 12-20-2011 09:18 AM

Im with ya on that Billy !! The AGX struts allow for compression/rebound adjustment and you can change spring rates all around in 25lb increments is the point i was trying to make or depending on your use you can taylor your suspension the way you want just by changing settings and springs .

I don't think that's what he (Ben) said. It does lower the car, but not lower than what currently-available lowering springs can accomplish. He did say that you can't "slam" the car. He did say that handling was still much improved.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll do the same and upgrade to the AGX before installing. The upgrade from GR-2s is not all that more expensive considering the overall cost of upgrading the suspension. Might as well do it right the first time.

Glad I read this thread. I will more than likely be doing this in the spring. Was gonna do GR2's, but might as well get the AGX's.

Why are you relocating your battery?

mmorello82 01-01-2012 08:30 AM

I was planning on do this too. But what are the best springs to buy? I only want to drop by about an inch or so. Does anyone have a link to good springs?

H&R springs are what i have....i drive it year round and very rarely bottom out....in fact i dont think i have bottomed out since i had these springs....just gotta be careful going over speed bumps or watch for big pot holes lol. H&R drop the car about 1.4-1.6 inches. If you dont wanna go that far then just get the Eibachs....they lower it about 1.2

unchained01 01-01-2012 01:21 PM

If ben gets the coilover setup ironed out with AGX struts i will have a set of eibach's for sale NIB And your close to me in parkersburg too

theres actually a guy in Terre Haute IN i meet at the mall a few weeks ago, he went to school there at IT tech and opened his own shop, he has a coilover kit for N body vehicles he sells. fully adjustable, because he works exclusively on N body vehicles at his shop. I saw his grandam in the parking lot... damn! he also has an alero he's done tons of work to. I got the card for his shop, he said he's had the coilover kit on his grandam for about 5 years with no problems. want me to check with him on a price or anything for you? -- he was also familiar with aleromod and the grandam forums-- small world afterall
