when it was the first start.... it ran SO good

kwhauck 12-08-2009 02:20 PM

hmmm.......interesting, guess i'll have to wait for hime to tear it apart to hear what happened.......seriously that sucks.....if that happens to me when i put my boosted motor in, or if something happens to the 5 speed when i am first driving it, i might just coast it off a cliff with me in it.....

[ion] C2 12-08-2009 03:12 PM

Meh..

Nate's Alero 12-08-2009 03:36 PM

no lol the silicon was on the outside of the piece just to stop the leak long enough for me to get the o ring but were working on finding out what happened

DOHC_tuner 12-08-2009 07:02 PM

How many quarts of oil did you pour?

And how fast were you running it before a tune?

Valves hit the pistons or the oil pump gave out.

[ion] C2 12-08-2009 07:05 PM

Yeah you check your oil level since the event? Maybe you dumped it all over the road.

6 and i was going like 45ish at like 1.5-2k i was getting off the highway and it blew.I never went above 3k and the car only had 30.3 miles on it.The coolant res is empty and there is no oil on the dip stick just metal shavings.

zoL 12-08-2009 08:44 PM

I blame Nate.

[ion] C2 12-08-2009 08:55 PM

i blame you for blaming me

DOHC_tuner 12-08-2009 09:56 PM

You never revved it right? And dont lie. Also did you start it and let it idle for a while? ANd I mean just let it sit and let it run for a good while.

You are suppose to start it then stand in front of the car and just watch her per and see how she idles. Just stand there and stand then watch the gauges then stand....LOL. Look for leaks, listen to the idle, notice if the fans come on, check gauges frequently, give it some gas, etc.

Caboose73 12-08-2009 10:07 PM

ya i did that and it ran perfect changed the oil the drove it around for 30mins changed the oil again then i drove it this morning and boom

DOHC_tuner 12-08-2009 10:23 PM

I know its been told here to change the oil a few times when you first start it but honestly I only changed it once after starting it and I never had problems.

But 6 quarts is sufficient due to the modified oil pan. Now do you know for sure if a new oil pump was used? If so what pick up was used too?

Was the timing perfect on mark?

Caboose73 12-08-2009 10:30 PM

i had the 2.3 swap so as far as i know everything was new and im not sure about the timing but i think it was good cause it started up great and ran fine until it died lol

clutch1 12-08-2009 10:39 PM

:/ bunk. Are you going to tear it down to find what happened?

Caboose73 12-08-2009 10:49 PM

yup im tearing it out thursday and giving it back to OEM and there going to take care of it

DOHC_tuner 12-09-2009 01:09 PM

Take pictures of the chain before removing it and other areas too. Are you tearing it down or will that guy from OEM do it?

And its funny cause I think I remember reading over on the org that he left something loose so there will be less friction etc....I'll go back and read it again.

Caboose73 12-09-2009 01:13 PM

Well ill be pulling the engine out tomorrow, ill be sure to take lots of pics and make up a how to this time.

kwhauck 12-10-2009 04:39 PM

updates now!!!

Caboose73 12-10-2009 08:14 PM

Well i found out what happened

Markus is going to take the block back and see what he can salvage

clutch1 12-10-2009 11:37 PM

What's pokin out the side der? Looks like the connecting rod came apart?

Haha like the connecting rod bolts

But seriously, this wasn't Mark's fault... more to come.

Caboose73 02-05-2010 12:06 AM

Getting rid of the HO

Kinda :p little update OEM is going to be stopping by sometime this month to pick up my car and bring it down to his shop in FL i got big plans :ninja:

Gr1m 02-05-2010 01:01 AM

did you bother to torque things down to proper specs. in that built engine or did you just wing it?

Vic28 02-05-2010 08:11 AM

To my understanding he had the engine built. He wasnt the one turning wrenches on the motor..

Anywayz when are you expecting to get the car back running since the car is taking a trip to Florida??

JLw7123 02-05-2010 10:18 AM

ya he had the engine built in NY the engine was nice saw it you should have seen the old engine that was in there oh god it was so bad.

Caboose73 02-05-2010 04:10 PM

Ill have the car back some time in may so that way i can take it to ASS

JLw7123 02-05-2010 04:23 PM

nice bet it is going to be fast.

Alerojester 02-09-2010 12:00 PM

i was reading through here thinking that your build would be nice to do to mine ;) but the hole in the block looks bad. I am going to be pulling my LD9 and attempting to rebuild it with the help of a buddy of mine granted he builds V8's but i am sure a I4 won't be too much of a problem for him and i to tackle if you read through one of my threads Motor Blew it tells the whole situation with mine. Can't wait to see the updates on yours.

Caboose73 04-11-2010 12:49 PM

Bumping this cause most of these parts are now for sale http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31095
