you're crazy

Well ive been browsing on summit racing and it looks easy enough to make a log manifold and have it exit on the pass side but im not sure how to get an exhaust flange and can start off of i tried ebay and i could only find eotec ones. Im not sure if i can cut up the stock mani and use that flange or go to a maching shop and just give the the gasket and tell them to cut a 1/2inch plate.

Mini update the 4 bolt-Vband connector finally got here and some pieces of the soon to be manifold also came in the rest should be in Monday :awesome:

but yeah just give a shop the gasket and they can make it easily |
How much did that cost to have him make one cause i might end up doing that im in the process of cutting up the stock one and im going to try and weld on a piece to see how well it comes out.
|
no idea, my manifold was completely designed on a trade deal, not payment
i'd guess $50-100 |
Well mini update all the pieces finally came in and bam you have everything you need to make a cheap log style manifold :awesome: :awesome:
So now im going to chop up the stock manifold to get the flange and practice welding one of those extras 90s and if it works ill hopefully weld all up and start figuring out the final pipe routes. |
Manifold Progress
Well busy night i finally got the manifold roughly fitted together to make sure it all fits and get a rough idea on the routes of the rest of the pipes to the turbo. Be genital this is my first project welding anything and this is just a starting mock up to test fitment and ideas.Well to start off i cut off the stock flange
Then i had to put in 3 inch spacers to clear the engine which is just 3 inch sections cut out of the stock exhaust. All tacked in place The rough fitment and now i got to cut them all to the same height and level it. Then i tacked together the actual manifold pieces still need to order 2 90* bends yo finish of the end Setting everything up to tack in place All Tacked up Still need to adjust the gaps and get it all fitted right And this is how its going to fit in and the 3 inch down pipe from the turbo goes under everything And the other 90* to make it around the side towards the turbo So everything seems to fit pretty good i still need the 2 90* bends for the end. I also need to move the heater core lines and fuel lines out of the way for that side to fit but i think its coming along :awesome: :awesome: |
Soooooo after reading a bunch of articles about turbo manifolds and talking to some smarter people then me I'm not going with this manifold and I'm starting over from scratch with something a lot better.
|
and have it TIG welded using stainless... no bird shit on mild steel
|
I don't have a tig unfortunately but I am going to get it ceramic coated after its all finished.
|
Well im finally back home and got some more parts in a 12" straight pipe and a merge collector
However after lots of messing around and trying to figure it all out ive finally figured out this is way above my welding skill (which is zero lol).So im going to put this on hold and work on my welding skills. So i went ahead and ordered a 1/2" t3 spacer which should just lift the compressor housing above the cam tower and give me enough clearance to go back to using the str log manifold. I also ordered a tial wastegate which should all be in when i get back then i can really start getting this build moving again. |
oh yeah, i forgot, i used a spacer with the STR manifold for the turbo to fit
|
Ya i know you did i did a Google search and came across your thread from here and how you made a spacer which gave me the idea lol.
|
Well guess What just arrived today my tial wastegate!!!!! And the thing is way bigger then i expected now im just waiting for the spacer plates to come in.
