I just got my alero. I have a v6 engine. so I have two pipes on the rear left side of my car. I want to split the pipes up and put one pipe on each side. Can someone tell me how i can do that. Also do I need a muffler or just the tip or both??? I am so Clueless. :insane:

whiteliquid 01-24-2006 11:56 PM

You cant do that  well not that im sure of.

It's one pipe, until the end where it branches into to ends.

once again I am new to this having a car thing and I don't know anything about anything. Can I go to a part store or something and ask for a new muffler for my car???

jabartram 01-25-2006 12:09 AM

go to a reputable exhaust shop and have them do the work, SLP, Flowmaster, Borla, Magnaflow, and a few others make single in dual out mufflers.

i personally modified my bumper for the dual exits, but you dont have to.

Check here.

yes, that is the muffler i have, but the tips i got from the exhaust shop. you can make you own choice on tips, there are ALOT of different styles out there.

thanks a million!!!!!!!!! :thumb:

something to remember, is that each muffler company has a different sound or tone to it, it all depends on what you want for sound.

2fst4u 01-25-2006 12:56 AM

exactly, it's all in what you like for sound. i have the dynomax muffler of the same type. you also have to decide whether or not you want to get an entire cat back system installed or not. i went with 2.5" piping from the catalytic converter (the round piece towards the front) to the back. lots of guys have 2.5" piping on their aleros. you just have to match the piping size to the inlet size on the muffler. and match the tip size to the muffler outlet size.
if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
and, i have a white rear bumper cut-out for duals if you wanted to buy one already professionally cut. just wanted to put that out there.

Like mine

These are my old tips however

170 at the crank and around 140 at the wheels. you wont get much out of just a muffler, maybe 3hp? the tips do nothing for you.

let us see some pics

whiteliquid 01-25-2006 09:06 PM

I didnt know if it fit or not, I actually meant dual ends. Thats a nice job on the cutout for your tips.

Anyways i was gonna go with a huge tip almost 5", but it would have looked soooooo stupid, so i went with a weird offbrand (performance exhaust) that sounds more like a deep magnaflow then anything, looks and sounds good, but the loser did a poopty job when installing it and angled it sideways (he thought it was cool) I dont like it even if it is the new "style"

cherrington17 01-25-2006 10:08 PM

good choice with NOT going with the huge "fartcan" style exhaust. gigiantic exhaust tips get laughed at, and thats all.

Dual 40's is still single exhaust, and a single 80 will cost less to install than 2 40's will.

jackal2000 01-25-2006 10:54 PM

so what is considered dual exhaust for a 3400? a header that is 3-1 x 2? or if it splits into 2 right after the cat?

*Iceman*2k6* 01-25-2006 11:31 PM

so What do I do to my alero next??? So far I have a new exhaust system and tinted windows.
