Disabling parking brake safety for head unit

I just got my new head unit yesterday. Pioneer AVH-P5100DVD.....the most important question is HOW DO I OVERRIDE THE PARKING BRAKE SAFETY (the brake needs to be on for the monitor to pop up)?! I wanna be able to have the monitor up while driving. A buddy of mine from work has done a ton of stereo installs and he said he would tell me what to do tomorrow but im too curious. i wanna be able to bang this out tomorrow night/friday morning. anybody have any ideas?!? PLEEEEAAAASE HELP! lol.

Not to sure. My JVC I just grounded the parking brake. Ive heard of people installing a switch and having to toggle the switch to get it to work. Off-on-off.

best bet would be to ground it through a toggle switch

I'm sure that it is illegal to watch Tv and drive in your state.

it depends,

If there is two wires for the parking brake.... one needs to be grounded and the other goes to a switch so you can do the proper procedure(on-off-on(depending on what unit you have))manual will say which one.

Unless there is one wire then just ground it... but a switch under the dash is nice if the cops ever check.... and they do, so you can disable it before they get in.

**Disclaimer**

This is for information purposes only and does not reflect on any intentions or suggestions givin by this poster.... it is illegal to operate the monitor while the vehicle is in motion almost everywhere!!

Its a BS law crap anyhow.

I will put a movie on and I still drive and not watch it. My kid loves to watch movies in the car...

It's pretty tempting to look down at it. As if drivers need more shit to be distracted by. Driving is primary, so many people think it's just a secondary function and whatever goes on in the cabin is far more important like reading a book, working a laptop, putting on makeup, searching for CDs, and end up causing a very dangerous situation.

It scares me sometimes.... A few months ago there a was a chick beside me at an intersection actually foiling and dying her hair!!!!! .... looking in the vanity mirror waiting for the light!! I tried to take a pic but the light changed. lol!

Just because i wanna disable it doesnt mean im going to stare at it while im driving....obviously driving comes first. but i would like to have the display up so i can actually use it instead of having it down all the time. i never just sit in my car. why should i use a off-on-off switch? why not on-off? lol

thanks for the help guys. i will update tomorrow night when i have everything torn apart. i wont be starting till a little later, like 7ish. no work friday! wooo

idk but the avics have a sticker on the bottom that says do not remove or warranty void and it is a bypass but i think you also have to ground out the parking break wire as well. i have a fixed double din avic-d3 and you actually have to switch a couple pins in the harness and ground one out i dont even have my parking brake wire run, though i do need to run the speed sensor wire to keep my arrow steight when im using my nav for more than 50 miles. best bet is to call a shop. not any chain stores most have a policy that forbids them to do it or disclose that information.

Here let me help you out:

Links to bypass

not to be too offtopic, but is this why i cannot make dvd's play in our corvette, even though it has the monitor and a dvd drive for the navigation map dvd?

Ian 2000GL LA1 10-07-2009 11:37 PM

possibly what kind of deck do u have?

idk, its the stock navigation system....

pimpalero2003 10-08-2009 12:24 AM

On old one I had had to use a toggle and then found out the hidden menu code where you can turn that feature off. That prolly has one to just have to search

99alerogirl 10-08-2009 12:28 AM

just put that wire in with the ground... that's what i did and my passengers can watch movies no matter when.

tnalero99 10-08-2009 12:45 AM

I havbe a Alpine and it has to be hit in a sequence. Instead of a tottle switch you can get a little black box that will do the bypassing for you. It just mounts to the wires. Here is a link to something like I have.

Just grounding doesn't work anymore usually has to be on off on and it'll pop up.
