Turbo help

Fuel Management

Unless you have a 2.0 ECOTEC motor (LSJ or LNF), your MAP or MAF sensor and computer (PCM) isn't designed to see boost. Because of this, it will not accomodate enough fuel during boost. You need the proper fuel management system. Current popular choices are:

- HP Tuners [Interface Pictures]
- Megasquirt Standalone Unit [Megasquirt Picture]
- FMU (Set Ratio or Adjustable) [Vortech 12:1 FMU Picture]
- DFMU
- EIC (Extra Injector Controller) Unit
- AEM EMS
- GM Supercharger Reflash
- JBody Performance computer Reflash

With the GM reflash, you need to replace your stock MAP sensor with a TMAP sensor. The TMAP sensor is a Temperature/Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. Basically, you're getting rid of your IAT sensor and splicing the wiring into the new wiring that goes to the connector of your new TMAP sensor. The GM reflash will change the fuel curve, accomodate the right amount of fuel while in boost, retard ignition timing and change the duty cycle on your injectors so you can idle properly with bigger injectors.

The reflash is only available for 02-05 ECOTEC equipped J-Bodies.

i have an 03 Eco 2.2L how can i find out if it has J-Bodies? or should i just get a fuel management system?

(Im not planning on doing this anytime soon, but i just want to know for future reference)

hahahahaha, dude, J-body is a car frame.....alero's are n-bodies, thats just GM's name for it, you need to do some serious research...

Ttop191 10-07-2010 01:09 AM

so i take it the flash is unavailable for me due to aleros having n-bodies?

Ttop191 10-07-2010 01:13 AM

exactly. plus the reflash is for the 2.0 eco not the 2.2

if you were to boost it would have to be custom tuned

already did but nothing except nos for engine info on the 2.2

Ttop191 10-07-2010 01:17 AM

go under the LD9 section the info is virtually universal for turbos, its just all about getting the correct injectors and tuning...on the most basic level of understanding

Only 05 and up aleros came with jbodys

Yep. You have to move your driver seat all the way back and then under your seat on the carpet is a switch. You flick that switch on and then it sends jbodys to the motor and it increases power like vtec.

Oh boy!!!! J-body's are Sunfire's and Cavalier's.. N body's Grand Am's, Alero's, and Malibu's. The quote is correct about the pcm in our cars being unable to read boost but with hp tuners and someone who is fully capable of tuning our pcm can tune it to read boost. My recommendation is become fully aware of the fuel management system in your car first before diving in to turbos.

EDIT: DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!!! judging by how hard it was to understand your initial question you'll do more damage than it's worth. My advice don't boost your daily driver, although a few guys have gotten away with it your best bet is to have a project car to build and learn with.

wrong...its available for the 2.2 eco aka L61. There is no 2.0 on n/j-bodies.

The only thing it would read boost(I should say MAP) would be for timing tables, not for fuel. Our PCM suckss.. Im not sayin it cant get tuned tho.

Now the GM reflash for ecotec on j-bodies is capable of running the car, but ull lose gas gauge reading and few other things. Now your car being automatic, that hasnt been tes ted with the j-body PCM since mine its standard. Goodluck:popcorn:
