honestly with all the work you are putting into the motor your cams seem pretty weak sauce to me......

-Alero- 07-03-2009 10:04 PM

maybe he wants drivability?

Nate's Alero 07-03-2009 10:56 PM

caint wait to help you install this bad boy! got new HL's for the coupe yet?

LZM Stage 2 are amazing according to those who have 'em

kwhauck 07-03-2009 11:50 PM

maybe compared to stock, but overall, the numbers just seem fairly weak, I would expect something in the 500 plus range for lift.....

worknprog.99 07-04-2009 12:42 AM

well the title says "turbo coupe project".. maybe this stuff is building up to hold massivee turbo boost?

Caboose73 07-04-2009 01:12 AM

ya this is going to be my dd so i didnt want an extreme cam so i found a middle ground between the secret cams and w41

jrim 07-04-2009 09:03 AM

Cool, lookin forward to seein a final project out of this, looks like this project has some major potential.

kwhauck 07-04-2009 12:03 PM

i hated having the alero as a project and dd, it is so much easier when alero is just a project and if it's down i don't have to worry about getting to and from places.......

its not my dd now but it will be when im done

Caboose73 07-07-2009 10:24 PM

Well i think i might change my mind and go with the M62 insted of a turbo

kwhauck 07-07-2009 11:08 PM

why? funds short?

worknprog.99 07-07-2009 11:11 PM

yes why?! turbo is way better

kwhauck 07-07-2009 11:44 PM

i wouldn't go that far.....

Alerosaint 07-08-2009 04:01 AM

Good luck with the manifold for the 62

Caboose73 07-08-2009 06:48 PM

Funds are fine i was just brain storming ideas and i might go with the M62.The manifold wont be a problem and id like to have instant boost i still have to look into the max hp out put of the M62 before i got making any definite choices.Id like to here peoples thoughts on it but i dont want to hear "turbos are way better cause i like them" id like FACTS im shooting for 350-400whp with full suporting mods like meth injection,3inch exhaust,a/w h/e,stand alone, suspension & drive train upgrades.

adam337 07-08-2009 07:20 PM

why not just get both?

kwhauck 07-08-2009 08:15 PM

stand alone suspension? as in you don't have to hold them, don't they always stand alone...

also if you are doing a hEaton with a custom manifold why not look into different blowers? whipple i may suggest..:scpimp: so much more effecient and they thrive on high boost, think 18-25psi....

also please no matter what blower you use, try to integrate a w2a intercooler before you resort to meth injection..

also look into e85 tuning, race gas for pump gas price :yahoo:

Spilner521 07-08-2009 08:35 PM

Instant boost = instant wheel spin (ask Ion what he thinks). You'll easily hit 400whp on a fully built engine with a fast spooling turbo like a GT3071R or 3076R. I would stick with the turbo, but that's just me. More efficient, easier to intercool, more power potential, easy to turn up the boost.

Turbos are not way better cuz I like them, I like them cuz they're way better :thumb:

kwhauck 07-08-2009 08:39 PM

i don't want to get into an arguement, but there are ways around the supercharger instant wheel spin.....

Caboose73 07-08-2009 08:42 PM

Is the M62 as bad as the MP45 cause the M62 will be off of a cobalt and i thought that charger was alright? and there was supposed to be a , in between stand alone and suspension lol i also forgot to say id be running a cobra h/e with the M62 so there would be a w/a h/e

Yeah I know, but the turbo is it's own way around instant wheel spin. You don't have to do anything else besides control the boost :thumb:

As bad in what way?

Caboose73 07-08-2009 09:14 PM

i know the MP45 maxes out at like 9-10psi and heats up alot.Does the M62 heat up as bad?

The MP62 is intercooler capable, so it can be brought up to over 10. I know that some stage 3 cobalts running upwards of 15 with no issues.

Spilner521 07-09-2009 06:02 PM

It can push more air and boost pressure than the M45, but yes, it'll still heat up quite a bit. There's a reason they call them hEatons...

If you're using a water-air intercooler, that will work fine. I don't think you'll get anything close to your 400whp goal out of that supercharger though.

Caboose73 07-09-2009 06:13 PM

Finally got pics of the block & other goodies

The block is going to be painted black and im just going to stick with a turbo but what should i do about the lifters? I completely over looked them and need a good option im going to be revving around 7200ish.

Caboose73 07-09-2009 07:25 PM

Block ready for paint

Block sand blasted and ready for paint :yahoo: :yahoo:

Black powder coating

01OldsAleroGt 07-09-2009 07:29 PM

damn that bitch be lookin sexy so far.. keep up on the updates man

Caboose73 07-13-2009 09:16 PM

Wanted to know everyones thoughts on Borg Warner/ Holset turbos, ive been reading about them over on j-body and other car forums and they seem to be a good turbo to use and alot cheaper then Garret turbos.

[ion] C2 07-13-2009 09:30 PM

They're awesome. spyhunter is going to be using a nice big BorgWarner for his new setup, and many many people have had great success with the cost effectiveness of a good sized Holset or BorgWarner unit.

I think instant power to the ground is fine, you just need to know how to manage the throttle. It just seems to be easier to launch without spinning the wheels with a turbo.

Like knowing how far to push the pedal.

worknprog.99 07-14-2009 01:22 AM

i gotta ask where are the funds for this project coming from? i want in on the money..... i have been considering the airforce as a career, maybe then i will have money to do fun things like this

Caboose73 07-14-2009 03:28 PM

Lots and lots of over time is were the funds are coming from im also going to the bank friday to try and get a loan so i can finish everything before winter.

kwhauck 07-15-2009 12:30 AM

with what as collateral? cuz i you don't got none, fat chance....

Caboose73 07-15-2009 12:53 AM

co sign and putting 1k down or more if they need it

Nate's Alero 07-15-2009 12:55 AM

lulz.

kwhauck 07-15-2009 12:57 AM

honestly getting a loan to finish it is kind of retarded. and it doesn't matter if the king of egypt co-signs for you. On an unsecured loan, they are gonna want collateral, unless you are going to some flea-bitten half ass bank.......

Caboose73 07-15-2009 01:21 AM

im only getting a 4k loan just to finish paying off the engine, pick up ms2,and a turbo

Nate's Alero 07-15-2009 01:28 AM

hahahahahahahaha, ONLY a 4K loan....

we need to race,
