Sucky ass Gas milage

I live in MA. and i went from Fitchburg to Leominster, and then back to Fitchburg. and when i went to Loem. my car was just at the full mark. and when i came back to fitchburg it was inbetween 3/4 and Full, exactly half. is this normal to consume that much gas.yea i kno the gas level flucuates slighty, but it didnt this time.

Im getting new tires in a few weeks, so that will help... but is it something with the injectors? or is that irrelevent for the gas milage?

Do you have an SES or SVS light? Low tire pressure? Dirty air filter? Old-ass oil and fluids?

Some mileage might help...

City to city and a relative needle possition meens nothing.

Miles per gallon baby. Do the math or you will never know if the changes you are making are doing anything.

start by not carrying dead witches in the back of the alero  there you would lose some weight and start to get your gas mileage back up. in all seriousness just try to maintain it reg. and also try to not keep any unnecessary weight in her.

I get shitty MPG too. I have a 3.4, 60k on it and i baby this thing. i get around 20mpg in the city and i dont drive too hard. Its just how the 3.4's are.

But in your case, idk if you take care of the car or not, but check the air filter....basically everything misslindseysue said. lol

i wish my silver got 20 in city is it lucky to get 15 in city highway is different story though

misslindseysue 09-28-2007 05:48 PM

I don't know what you people have done to your car, but I consistently averaged 28mpg in my Alero.

Alero2k4 09-28-2007 06:05 PM

My Eco used to get 22-24 mpg, it could be worse though, my Mazda has almost half the displacement and get gets 15-18 LOL

BTW my Eco was bone stock and VERY well cared for, very low mileage and used RP oils etc.

how much weight did you have in the car, and passengers?? key factor there.

I'm at 2o to 21 with city driving / highway but when I lived in Philly (more stop and go) 20 was the avg.

pffft... On the highway, I'm getting 35 per gallon :D (FYI that is the same as a lot of 'fuel efficent' 4 cyl for sale today, and mine is a V6 :rolleyes2: )

misslindseysue 09-29-2007 01:50 PM

I average 32-35 mpg now, and I'm driving a lot less highway, and a lot more traffic jams when I am. :)

as a former 3400v6 owner i can tell you you dont get 35mpg on the highway unless your cruising at 55mph slightly downhill.

3400's are the suck at gas mileage, my s/c 3800 gets better mileage then my I/E 3400 did, and has 130 more hp.

The most I have heard out of a 3800 is 30mpg and with a S/C I highly doubt it. Sorry just can't swallow that one, I have driven and owned both.

I probably get about 22-24 MPG in city.... but I haven't checked lately.

Vinman 01-02-2008 10:33 PM

yeah i haven't calculated mine yet, but i know its crappy..for example, from here (Claremont new hampshire) to middletown, ct is about 146 miles, and I use my cruise control at about 70-75 99%( I've tried other speeds, but these seem to be better) of the way and the rest of the time maintaining the speed (for those of you who live in ct/mass know the traffic on 91) with my foot. and i usually loose almost 1/2 tank..no lights..new k&n air filter, new plugs and wires, no lights other than low coolant and abs/trac off..just broke 96.6k and its a 3400..oh and me and my girlfriend were the only ones in the car with maybe 30 lbs of luggage.

meanwhile...my dad's wifes 04 cts v6 can go from middletown ct to staten island new york at about 80 the whole way, no cruise, and a FULL car load and the needle doesn't move (this is probably about a 150mile or so trip)..and not to mention its just a bigger car and i believe the mileage is pretty low i think at about 50k or less....i don't get it.....

So 352 miles and using 10 gallons of gas isn't 35 mpg? :rolleyes2:

Going to Lansing every year for the past 4 years now and crossing PA (which is 350 miles VIA the PA turnpike) and running down to a 1/4 tank of gas

TheEdgeofSanity 01-03-2008 04:00 PM

its winter and I checked my gas mileage today. i got 23 miles per gallon which i think is pretty good considering I drive mostly from school to home

im saying my s/c 3800 gets alot better then my 3400 did

i got about 29-30 on a 98% highway trip (about 70mph)

the supercharged 3800 is capable of better gas mileage because it has a 2.93 geared tranny

there are things you can do to the tune to get better mileage when modded

but ive since gotten rid of the EGR, low tstat, cold plugs and the mileage goes down the shitter....i can get 24 on the highway now
