Serious Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, today it reached -54 degrees C. My autostart wouldn't work...I went to the car tryed turning it over, I had the car plugged in all night....the first turn it turned over but WOW....CLUNK.....CLUNK......CLUNK.......CLUNK..... .CLUNK....for 45mins...it took 45mins for the temp. gauge to move 2mm......now it took 2hours to warm up to 1/4 heat....now, Im hearing a little clunk when im driving this thing, I know its not the motor cause it only happens when im moving, im worried its the shocks but im not quite sure, has this happened to ny one? And my transmission is shifting on me whenever it wants, if Im going at a constint 60kph, its shifting between 2nd and overdrive gear when I have it in third. Im really worried, im going to take it out for a drive soon see if its still doing this.

ouch

Technically.. your typical oil used for an alero is approching the consistancy of chewing gum at those temps.
Technically you could also use thinner oil.. but, I wouldnt.. might hurt the engine on a warm day..

Trannyfluid is also doing the same it seems.

I would only drive my car in those temps if I had a garage, and a block heater..

If your car has been plugged in outside, in that kinda sh-t... wouldnt really notice any diff. plugged in or not..

also put some sort of de-icer made for your gas tank in.

Gas gets thick too..

all fluids are showing full up

Move that means its to dam cold were you live hahahha

Its really not a good idea to start a car below -45 degrees. I've started my old car at -45 below (not including the wind chill) and basically the belts couldn't turn the accessories and my fan just about came off the motor. If you gotta go though you should at least use full synthetic winter oil.

Wind chill wouldnt matter anyhow,it doesnt apply to non-living things.

I bet I know what your birthday money is going towards.

Wreckless 01-12-2007 09:00 PM

Ok Im sorry for that last one. That sucks about your car man but Id bet your block heater isnt working too good if it starts that hard.

How in the hell can you believe that...

Why do you think people blow on their food when its hot---to cool it off right. It takes away the heat. Wind chill affects anything maybe not to the same degree though

Cliff8928 01-13-2007 02:01 AM

That's not the same idea. Wind chill has to do with a perceived temperature change. If it's -40° and the wind is blowing, it's the same temperature as if it's -40° and calm. If something is warm, and you have -40° wind blowing at it, then that can make a difference, but if it's already ambient temperature it won't.

that blows man...i hope its not the same clunking comin out of my car right now cuz that'd be bad news

jayson_waltz 02-06-2007 07:20 PM

great u are one of the people that think a car should work the same in the cold as in the heat. now, your oil pump might have been froze up when u first started the car and unthawed after a while. that would make it knock. and yea the fluids are REALLY stiff in that temp. but the tranny still shouldn't do that.

and, no, even if its a little cold out (yes that temp is a little to me) the block heater will still heat up. so it still helps.

and also, gas doesn't get thick unless it is deisel fuel. its either liquid or froze and it doesn't freeze till a lot colder than that. use the iso-alcohol yes but that has to do with condensation in the tank from taking ur car from warm to cold conditions.
mine stared right up no problem in that weather, just gotta let it warm up.
