Best mild performance re-build on a 2.4.

Ok, so I know I'm gonna get a lot of "Search!!!..." comments, but I did & I didn't really find what I'm Looking for :(

That being suggestions on a good combination of parts for a mild rebuild on a daily driver(quite a bit of mileage in this biz) LD9, Head(2.3, 2.4, etc), Cams, Intake, Exhaust, Pistons if required. I have a 99 (with an auto trans) that has a rod bearing going, I'm gonna swap that for the one out of the Alero my duaghter wrecked which is running fine, but both had 160K + a little, so I'm wanting to rebuild the one that's coming out, and maybe warm it up a bit without getting too extreme, then swap it back into it's original home.

at least you searched! hopefully a 4 cyl guru will chime in, but I would be willing to wager that pistons won't be required for a mild build....

I'm new to to the LD9 too, but I'm lookin at the quad 4 intake mani. and secret cams then of course CAI, header, maybe a solid tune P&P job and full exhaust for my mild build. While this threads goin, whats with people modifying the oil pan and pump?

People supposedly stick the 2.3HO oil pump in.

Doc this link might give you some ideas http://sites.google.com/site/aleromo...9-24L-twin-cam

I hope this helps, also a good source of information and sites to get upgrades from.

2.3 Pump

Ok, so on more research it look like the 2.3 oil pump is the way to go for durability, but it also seems this deletes the balance shaft assembly, which might or might not be a great thing, how much does this change the vibrations in the engine, it appears that this should also free a little power as there is less rotating mass in the engine & less to fail, but I'd just kind of like some additional feedback from people that have done it.

Always had the stock pump, never had any issues.

HO Twin Cam cover

Spyhunter,

ION's is the only one I've seen that is both HO & 2.4 Twin Cam, my question was as much about if it cam that way, or if he cut & welded a couple together, which is what I've contemplated. I may still be interested in one though, just got a couple other things to figure out first.

I kinda figured that was the case, but didn't know if there was some rare version I'd not seen before.
