Finishing head gasket need help! What goes here!
2 Attachment(s)
Just putting my new to me 2.4l back together after a headgasket change. The accessories were off when I bought this so I don't know if I have all the parts or if they are actually needed or whatever. There is a hole at the front of the head that looks like something should go there but I have no part that fits. HELP!

EGR port, not used after model year 1999. You may have a blocking plate for it.
|
just go to autozone and buy the egr gasket. use it to stencil out a block plate and then use em to block that off.
|
No, don't, because you don't need it. It can sit like that forever as long as it's a 2000 or newer or doesn't have a channel cut in the exhaust manifold to let some gas from runner #4 through.
|
It is a 2000. But the exhaust mani did have a weird side spot on it but it led nowhere. Thanks for the good info again Ion. Your posts are always very helpful.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunk tha police Quote:
srsly cant i just block it off? because the manifold gasket blocks it from the back anyways??? |
Yeah you can block it off with the gasket, but I'm not sure how to edit the tune to eliminate EGR's effect. It might have some strange modifiers to the values in your fueling/spark tables that could make the car run poorly.
|
You just change the enable/disable temp for EGR in the tune to eliminate it.
|
srry to alerored for threadjacking. but cliff how would it be in the tune? my original engine had no egr on it and the manifold didnt have the egr port. from what i read on jbo evrybody says to use everything from my setup: harness, manifolds fuel rail etc. if i just drop my 98 ld9 and use my original harness there wouldnt be anything on the pcm for it right?
|
right

You mean you're using a 98 engine in your Alero? I was more referring to how to eliminate the effect of EGR in a tune.
Then you just need to adapt for the newer style knock sensor. That EGR passage only goes through the head, so if you don't have it on the exhaust manifold, then there's no worries if it's blocked off or not on the intake side. |
yea i already have the thread adapter for the knock sensor. ok thats what i thought, i just wanted to be 100% on that. thanks

I had an 88 s10 that wouldn't pass emissions because the SES light was on. It had been on since I bought it, but never had a problem until I moved to Colorado, because South Dakota doesn't do emissions. After I failed, I drove down to the end of the block, took the bulb out from behind the SES light, drove back, and passed.......
|
haha nice. out here its not hard to find a place to pass ur smog, almost every other shop does it. but they all charge like 200 to pass.
