Looks nice, very clean. How do you go about cleaning and detailing your engine?

irondiezl3 04-11-2011 12:05 AM

well thats dirty to me i havent cleaned it yet this summer. if dont properly you can get it really good. i cover anything electrical with plastic shopping bags. any wires, battery, alt, etc.after making sure everything is covered wery well spray liberally and I mean LIBERALLY the entire engine bay with simplegreen at full strength with engine at regular operating temperature. let it sit for 5-10 minutes 10 if its really dirty then rinse with low pressure very low pressure. turn car on immediately after about 20 minutes if you choose to you can spray it with a detailer or clear tire shine to add a high gloss which i do but it will allow dirt and dust to stick easier but i just like the shiny clean look.

FYI, you can cover up just the alternator and spray the whole thing down with a garden hose, if you really wanted to. but yeah, Simple Green it the best for a really dirty engine bay.

bigdoug42 04-11-2011 04:00 AM

guess I'm not the only nite owl, lol.

AlbinoMonkeyRat 04-11-2011 05:47 AM

lol not really a night owl...my son woke me up, wife is feeding him now. I just hopped on real quick to check some stuff out.

BTW, the engine bay looks nice diezl. :)

Christato71 04-11-2011 07:50 AM

So just cover up the alternator and that's it? What about any of the wires or wire harnesses?

irondiezl3 04-11-2011 10:07 AM

well to be safe i cover any wires anything electrical like sensors just to be extra safe. and yea simple green is really good ive used a few different products(spray nine, purple power, awesome and a few of the ones in a can you get at auto part stores) but simple green was the best. painting alt today.

Lucalare 05-08-2011 10:07 AM

That's purty. Did you polish the manifold and valve covers or paint them?

irondiezl3 05-08-2011 10:51 AM

:) thanks i primed painted and clear coated it all with high heat paint. its like tattoos im addicted now i wanna do the water pump and thermo housing.

Oldsman 05-08-2011 11:26 PM

i was going to say the water pump now stands out.

When doing up an engine bay you always have to look at what the next thing might look like crap and if i do this then i need to do that........which is why i need more chrome.
