My lighting mods.

Well, I got bored of having bland incandescant bulbs on my car that did nothing to help me, so I've decided to add LED bulbs around the car. This will be a thread that not only shows what I'll be doing with LED's but also my headlights and perhaps tails.

To start off, I converted my license plate to LED.

The plastic that holds the original bulb broke off, and I never liked the way it looked. I guess I started getting jealous of everyone in my area having LED plate lights.

The weird part is that now there's light being emitted from the plate area to the ground. Don't know what to think of it, but I'll see what happens as time goes on.

I also added an LED strip in the trunk because the stock light did me no good since I put in 2 12"s in the trunk. Now I can see the junk in the trunk without a flashlight.

Never really said much about this, but I converted my 3rd brake light to LED using an Impala 3rd brake light. I did this because I was tired of changing bulbs back there every 6 months. Cheap ass sylvanias... smh

More to come soon as I get more wiring and switches to add more lights.

I used a strip of LED's. It's one of those things where the GA and Alero differ. Aleros have 2 194 bulbs, the Grand Am has one on the center. I always thought one was weak, so instead of buying a 194 that would have multiple LED, I thought it would look better with the strip.

I bought this for $10, so I'm going to have some fun with it.

Wow looks good.

rustyballs_69 02-03-2013 05:29 PM

The Alero only has one 194 bulb for the license plate. This is what I used

I have around the same ground effect coming from the license plate,
i like it in my opinion :coolio:

What did you use for the trunk light? I usually don't like lighting mods, but that's one I actually need..

I cut an LED strip out of a roll, soldered wire to it and stuck it above the plate with double sided tape

i jammed a stock 194 along with the neg and pos wire then hid the stock connector in the bumper

For those that want a cleaner looking way to do it, there's always something like http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...-pcb/403/1387/ .

Only problem is making sure you get it wired right. Although. for those strips, if you get it backwards, it just doesn't light up - so you can flip the board over in the socket *grins*

Just a thought.
