My 02 Alero 2.2L Sedan

I bought the Alero in December 2012 from a family member and it has only 72,000 km on it. Living in Ontario, the winters are usually pretty rough and with the salt on the roads, results with a lot of rusted vehicles. The Alero just had $2k of body work, so it’s in practically mint shape right now. Since the body work has been completed, the car hasn’t seen winter roads.

Questions:
• The car is sitting a little high, what do you recommend in terms of a lowering setup?
• Does anyone have an Optima Yellow Top battery installed?

Hey man... nice ride so far... you up for a meet and greet down this way in the summer? I know it's a bit of a hike for you... but it's fun times!!

As for lowering...
Eibach 1.2-1.4"
H&r 1.4"
Canuck/sprint/dropzone 1.75-2"

Kyb agx struts are the brand of choice but the kyb gr2/excel ones are also liked.. others prefer the monroe sensitracs as well... look to soend $5-1000 on a new set up unless you can find a used set...

I think it all looks awesome bro. Great job!

I am a little surprised you went with a 205 tire width, but other than that, i am impressed.

I have a black Alero and i am planning on clearing corners and another mod.... but i am debating what to do if anything with the bezel. not sure if i want to paint, black, white, or just leave chrome.

S8track16 02-25-2013 11:54 AM

@tw0123 I'm always down for a meet in Ontario, the distance isn't really an issue.

@the1lyden the 205 tires came with the rims when i bought them, they were previously on a cobalt. I think chrome or black bezels would look really good on your car.

the1lyden 02-25-2013 11:59 AM

S8track16 - how long did it take you to clear your corners?

Also, i was leaning towards leaving the chrome, and getting blue turn signals.

03Sleepr 02-25-2013 12:02 PM

wow, that thing is clean, you should lower it, tint the windows, and get GAGT mirrors and it would look awesome..

S8track16 02-25-2013 12:22 PM

@the1lyden - i think is was around 3-4 hours for clearing the corners. I really took my time removing all of the old sealant so i wouldn't get any condensation when I applied the new stuff. Also, it was difficult to remove the bezel from the outer lens, for some reason the two pieces were almost melted together.

@03Sleepr - I'm getting it tinted in the summer (most likely 20% all around), and with the GAGT mirrors, do they just replace the alero mirrors without any modification?

yea, they install just like alero mirrors. if you have power mirrors your controls will be inverted, I prefer them inverted actually..

tw0123 02-25-2013 01:52 PM

Nice man... I'm the same way about driving for a meet... we had 4-5 last summer ranging from barrie to london to hamilton even one at mmgt1's (Paul) house fir a bbq! Follow the southwest ontario thread for the meets this summer! We would love to have more people out for sure

S8track16 02-25-2013 01:59 PM

Would these mirrors be compatible even though they are 99-01 and my car is 2002. Here is the link:

If they will work, ill buy them today.

03glgold 02-25-2013 02:07 PM

I think they should be the same, I don't know what the difference would be...the only thing that I could think of is that that is when they switched to mickey mouse ears on the grand am

they should work, I used the same mirrors on my 00 as I did on my 03..

you have manual mirrors? I'm not sure about those because mine are power.

S8track16 02-25-2013 02:32 PM

Yes, mine are manual. Makes installation a lot easier.
