Alternator Question

Will a 2006 chevy cobalt 2.2l ecotec alternator fit on my 2.2 alero?

chances are good they will. could try going to a parts store website and looking up both alternaotrs and seeing if they share the same number. this may or may not give you the anwser your looking for. chances are good though it will work.

www.rockauto.com check if the alternator is interchangeable.

Thought you had a bigger alternator for your system?? Why go to a stock cobalt one??

This is the first thing I would do.

I didn't have one yet, someone has a great deal on a singer 250amp alternator from there cobalt. I looked on rockauto but the part numbers are different since the cobalt alts they have are 120 while the alero is 105A.

I contacted Mike Singer and he said that it will bolt up unless it is a hairpin version. If its a hairpin version, a stack of washers can be used for it to fit. And apparently there is another method to turn to alternator on if the stock plug code doesn't match up. Either way, it sounds like it will work.

If you do some reading here, people have used alternators from other cars. Someone in DC just did it a couple of months ago. (edit, I think it was Nas Escobar)

If the 2006 Cobalt has the same L61 engine (that means it's not the 2.4 in the SS) then yeah, it will be a direct bolt on. Not much changes between years of engines with GM.
