If it is just the fan then check the fuse for the blower motor. it may also be a blower motor resistor. there are plenty of how-to's on that on this site.

The curtesy lights are hooked up to the hweads lights and tehy only come on w/the headligths. if you turn your car on they should not come on right away ( with the e brake on) if you let your e-brake...

Just a thought! did you check all three fuses panels? The one on the drivers side of teh dash, pass side of teh dash and the one under the hood. I can't remember if anyof them are for that...

i know it don't sound right, but hey, it's a cheap part even if it's not the prob.
