I would say there is a wire that didn't get hooked up to the new alternator to supply enough voltage to keep it going. As for the belt I have been able to pull it by hand and slip it on at the water...

Sounds like a good idea if it works. One concern I would also not be sure of is how the difference in fuel may or may not mess with the PCM settings. Something like will the air/fuel ratio vary too...
