being an owner of a V6 alero with the 4T45E and having family members and friends who have cars with the 4T40E, i am FAR more impressed with the 4T40E. I hate my transmission. its slipped and done dumb shit from day one. on the other hand, i have a friend with a grand am, nearly 200,000 miles and he beats on it everyday with offroading, jumping ice piles, etc. and he can't kill it. i don't know whats so different but somethings there that makes it feel like a more solid tranny than the supposibly "heavier duty" big brother.
