I had a steel brush that I used to take basically polish it
I had a handy dremel to reach the small parts.
then i used red engine enamel iirc. (you could use other stuff for better turnout like powder coat it)
but its real simple, just take your time when letting it dry.
Also, be careful when you put it on so that you dont get any chips in it.

When I was putting it back on i was kind of anal about torque-ing it to the correct ft/lb but I was told that it was just a valve cover and that just hand tighted plus a quarter of a turn will be fine
