You will still want to paint them clear or the corrosion will build up again. If you have a wire wheel put a brass brush on the end. they cost about four dollars and pollish with low abbrasion. If not, dremel makes a few attachments for polishing as well. They just take longer.
A small suggestion is to rebuild the caliber while it is out. The rebuild kit is cheap and might save future problems with worn seals.
