as far as engine braking, I would think its the opposite: if the flywheel is lighter, it probly eats less of the engine braking and therefore putting more of it directly to the wheels. Also, if it revs down faster, isn't it what you want when you are using engine compression?

well from what I understand, when you are downshifting with out double clutching what slows ya down the most is when you let your foot off the clutch and the motor has to match what speed the trans is going and vice-versa. So if you had a lighter flywheel then the motor would be able to catch the trans faster and the trans wouldn't slow down as much. You'd still slow down but just not as much.
