As for the motor swap, yes you are going to have to swap the entire wiring hardness, PCM, etc from the donor car. Yes also some programming is required going from an auto to a manual transmission.

This is not an easy swap to do. Maybe a 2.4 or a 2.2 guy can chime in about the wiring and if it's all in the same spot.

Not really sure about the "peppyness" difference. Both motors were rated at 150 hp
