Yes, exactly right.
I talked some more with Tobin, and the factory Alero piston is 60.3mm, which compared to the area of twin 40.5mm pistons, the new caliper had about 10% less piston area so the pedal should be very close to or a touch firmer then a bone-stock setup.
So either my bleed job was bad or I'm just used to the older calipers which had even smaller pistons.
