01GrandAm is on a distinguished road
I am going to be attempting the swap in approx a year, but I am slowly gathering info and should have parts by the end of October.

From what I have see is that you need the pedals, shifter, console, shift cables, axels, clutch master cylinder, ect. from a 5 speed 2.4L. Then you must use a 2.2L non ecotec tranny from a cavalier (preferably 2000 + as they are a getrag tranny) the 2.2L ecotec and 2.4L trannys have a different bellhousing/casing so they will not bolt up to the 3400 engine.

s far as the PCM goes, you can disable the following DTC parameters with the Powr Tuner:

• P0704 - Clutch Switch Input Circuit Malfunction
• P0705 - Trans Range Switch Circuit
• P0706 - Trans Range Switch Performance
• P0711 - TFT Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
• P0712 - Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit Low Input
• P0713 - Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit High Input
• P0716 - Input Speed Sensor Circuit Intermittent
• P0717 - Input Speed Sensor Circuit Low Input
• P0719 - Brake Switch Circuit Low Input
• P0724 - Brake Switch Circuit High Input
• P0730 - Incorrect Gear Ratio
• P0740 - TCC Enable Solenoid Circuit Electrical
• P0741 - TCC System Stuck Off
• P0742 - TCC System Stuck On
• P0748 - Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit Electrical
• P0751 - 1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance - No First or Fourth Gear
• P0752 - 1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance - No Second or Third Gear
• P0753 - 1-2 Shift Solenoid Circuit Electrical
• P0756 - 2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance - No First or Second Gear
• P0757 - 2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance - No Third or Fourth Gear
• P0758 - 2-3 Shift Solenoid Circuit Electrical
• P0785 - 3-2 Shift Solenoid Circuit Electrical
• P1527 - Transmission Range to Pressure Switch Correlation

Probably not everything that will need to be addressed, however it is a good start.

As for costing more than the car is worth, If you can get junk yard parts,I predict the total swap costing less than a rebuilt auto tranny or about $1500.

Will it be a easy straight forward swap.....No not at all. The subframe will have to be modded to either fit the tranny (if you use the 3400 subframe) or the engine (if you use the 5 speed subframe) The wiring is going to be a challenge for some along with the PCM programming.
