Stiff Clutch?
Last night I was driving home from dinner and movie with wife (about 1.5 hrs on the highway) and the clutch about half way home became very hard to push like at first I thought I hit the wrong pedal and got the brake, that hard. It was extremly cold (about -25 to -30 celceus) I was just wondering if the cold would have something to do with this or is there something else going on?

never mind, after looking around on the internet it sounds like a t/o bearing or pressure plate. Time for a new clutch kit I guess. Is it normal for them to just go all of a sudden? It was working fine and then without warning it wasn't. Kinda wierd.

maybe you could put some higher end stuff in there by the way. I think centerforce makes a clutch kit for our cars.

Yeah a throwout bearing will take a shit out of nowhere.

well I'm gonna throw her in the shop tonight and let her warm up on the off chance that this is all due to the cold but I'm not holding my breath.

Unless the centerforce is weighted it's not worth it. You're better off with something from Clutchmasters or Spec.

well I put it in the shop and warmed it up and the clutch feels normal again so maybe it was just cause it was cold.

That's weird though because cold should only affect it on first start. My car was hard to move between gears when I first started it this morning...-26 celsius with the wind.
I heard a good combo is the Exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel. Revs faster.

ya thats what I thought but it seems to have worked. I was thinking about a lightweight flywheel but after some research I decided to stick with the stocker. Faster revs=faster to lose revs, so you would really have to shift fast to keep the rpms up while shifting and engine braking would be sacrificed and you would lose a little bit of torque.

lol Its strange that you mention that, I noticed that my rev werent going down fast enough when I was shifting and if i doesnt wait longer to shift, the car bugs a little bit. Maybe thats because I have a 2.4L if that has any relation.
as far as engine braking, I would think its the opposite: if the flywheel is lighter, it probly eats less of the engine braking and therefore putting more of it directly to the wheels. Also, if it revs down faster, isn't it what you want when you are using engine compression?
But thats just out of my head and maybe its worth crap

well from what I understand, when you are downshifting with out double clutching what slows ya down the most is when you let your foot off the clutch and the motor has to match what speed the trans is going and vice-versa. So if you had a lighter flywheel then the motor would be able to catch the trans faster and the trans wouldn't slow down as much. You'd still slow down but just not as much.

For myself the revs don't drop fast enough .
Good that it worked but like you said, you might as well start looking at prices because it if happens again, you know it wasn't a coincidence.

oh your talking only when you engage the gear, I was refering at when lets say you are in 3rd gear and you just let go the gas pedal and brake using engine compression.

The only thing i know, its when i took mine this morning the clutch pedal was really stiff because of the cold(-25 degrees). After about 20 minutes,it was okay.
