Guage lights after stereo install

I just finished installing a new headunit for my 03 Alero. everything works well, howeevr i noticed my gauge lights are not working properly. Out in the sun I can barely see the gauge lights but at night it works fine. I did not wire the dimmer wire of the radio to the alero harness...

I used metra 70-2003 wiring harness.... and referred to this page for the wiring diagram http://www.modifiedlife.com/radio-wi...smobile-alero/

The diagram says dimmer/illumination is NA so I did not bother connecting it to the harness...

Thanks for your help

So you used one of those "stock harness savers"? Could be a short.

yes i did... hopefully not a short... im thinking it could be the dimming sensors

alero has this feature to dim automatically based on the ambient light... its just that its too dim out in the sun so i can barely see anything, at night it is working fine.

This feature i have never heard of. I'm only aware of the twilight sensor which turns the headlights on and off.

I have an 03, it would always light up automatically including the light under the console behind the cup holder when going through a tunnel or inside a dark parking garage. It would dim automatically, including the stock radio and the lights behind the cup holder would go off upon exiting the tunnel or going out of the garage as long as there is sun or bright light.

Similar dim function when you adjust the wheel switch beside the fog light button

I have a 2000 and the dash auto dims. Turn your lights on during the day and watch the dash

Yeah both are connected. When u go through a tunnel or garage, headlights are automatically turned on, and that dash lights dim. I think it's a standard feature in all Aleros. My 2000 has it...
