Very often, if the shop use the Felpro gasket with the metal backing then you should not have to do it again for about 2 yrs.

DO yourself a favor, ditch the orange coolant and go back to the regular green stuff!

You can use the green stuff, I don't see it being any advantage aside from being cheaper. You have to change it more often too, and it contains silicates which are more prone to causing that scaly build-up in the cooling system.

Yes you can.

I guess the old stuff and the Dex Cool are not compatible though...

The stores are now stocking some "yellow" stuff thats compatable with both styles...????...

There has been numerous complaints about Dex Cool eating up gaskets. So many their are class action lawsuits still current against GM over them.

Also note, them quick lube shops wont use the green stuff in your car. Because the sticker says "dexcool only" and because they charge you $80+ for dexcool and only $35 for the green

I've just dicovered that my intake manifold is leaking too... not too impressed. I've only had my 2003 Alero GLX for 4 months and it seems to plagued with problems.

I was told by a mechanic that a gasket is a gasket... eventually it will have served its' intended lifespan and need to be replaced.

My LIM gasket failed at 39k on my last V6. Right now I've got 22k on an OEM gasket, and I've heard of them failing at that low of a mileage.

Someone on here or grandamgt.com was complaining about their LIM going at 22k. miles. Maybe you are just getting lucky...

Well a gasket may be a gasket, but the Dex Cool vs the green schtuff is two very different beasts...

Ive went almost 96K miles on my LIMG and just changed it out with the steel Fel Pro- its the $85 perma-dry plus one. Rock has it for $69

80k is abit on the highside......... it will be going soon.

and the reason the gasket fails IS NOT BECAUSE OF DEX COOL!!!

its due to the material the gasket was/is made out of. it expands and contracts to much when it heats up nad cools down and lets coolant seep thru it. gm supposedly has corrected this problem now in the 3500's but who knows.

The new 3500 and the 3900 don't have the problem because there is no more coolant going through the intake..

The problem with the Dex-Cool is that when the system is low in coolant, the dye pigment precipitates. If it's kept full, there's no problem.

i had a jasper put in my car and now im running regular coolant. dexcool corrodes the seals and gaskets that why theres a class action law suit
also i heard that the gasket in the alero was made out of shotty cheap material by gm. they have change the part number because they made a new one or something like that

The original gasket design was faulty, however there are no issues with the dex-cool if you properly maintain your vehicle and keep the cooling system full.
