Unhappy Help! Clutch Pedal Stuck down

Guys,

2001 Alero 2.4 with manual trans...

The last couple of days I noticed that the working point of the clutch was getting lower and lower. This morning when I went to start the car the clutch pedal went down and stayed down. and I wasn't able to shift into gear. I looked under the hood and noticed that the small reservoir with a yellow disk in the center of the cap to the right of the brake master cylinder looking at the engine from the front bumper was empty. I am assuming that this is the Master clutch cylinder.

Since it was empty, I grabbed some brake fluid and added some. I tried to "pump" the clutch , but still the pedal would not come back up.

I am assuming I have developed a leak some where. Is there a way to find out if it is from the slave cylinder? Will a bleed fix this? Where is the bleed screw?

If it is from the slave cylinder, what is a ball park cost to have it fixed?

Thanks

Sam

yes.. you have a leak. and you have air in the line. So try bleeding the line to get the air out and you will have your pedal back until the fluid is all out.

Thanks. Can you point me to where the bleed screw is? Is it on the transmission?

No use bleeding it, you have to replace the whole hydraulic clutch slave kit if its leaking. Not alot of work but probably around 150 if you can find an aftermarket one, or about 300 from a dealer.

...some people getting it confused. Obviously you have a leak. Add some fluid, pump it and find where there leak is at. If the leak is on the line that come from the firewall to the tranny(you should see the bleeder on the left side of the battery on that area) you will have to replace the Master Clutch cylinder which comes with the whole line(dont think they sell you the line itself, check)But if the leak is thru the tranny means your slave is shot, bad news is you will have to take tranny out, lot more money to get it done even tho the part should not be much.

Well lots of systems if one thing goes out (which it obviously did if the brake fluid is all gone) you just get a whole new setup, master, line, and slave, already pre-filled and bled. Easy enough.
