How Hard Is It To Change The Hub Assembly 04 Alero 15inch? FRONT PASSANGER

front or rear? rear is 4 bolts holding the hub/bearing assembly on. front you have the bolts, plus the large hub nut and you have to press the axle out of the hub.

Speaking of hubs, I am trying to get the rear hub/bearing off my spare knuckles so I can start assembly of the new stuff and god dammit I can't get it off. Took the bolts out, but it doesn't want to budge. Even the BFH won't remove it. All the stuff I have says it's only 4 bolts....anybody got any ideas? I've changed the front before, never done the back.

Slide hammer is your friend on the rears. The BFH works well on the fronts but I would not use the slide hammer there for fear of separating the cv.

It's not real hard but it helps if you have access to an impact hammer.

Also note the $20 35mm socket with 1/2" breaker bar will work on the front axle nuts.

Slide hammer duly noted. Already have the socket. And I have a BFP, a nice 2' long 2" dia. steel pipe with a 90 elbow on one end, which gets me plenty of leverage to break loose those tight nuts and bolts. And when not being used as a tool, it fits nicely down by the side of the driver's seat in my Jeep, in case I'm having a "Falling Down" moment during my daily commute

Crap I have a 32mm socket, but I guess I will look in dad's tool chest for a 35mm. That is a lot of cash for one socket you will never use again. (unless you have a lot of friends with grand ams and aleros)

35mm will not work and I doubt your dad will have one. That nut is very tight and 3mm too big will round it off. Spend the money, you are still cash ahead than if you had the dealer do it.

the socket for the axle nut is a free rental tool from autozone...no need to buy it.

It's worth buying if you plan on keeping the car. I am on my 6th wheel bearing. It is getting rediculous.

Dad only has SAE sockets, not metrics that big. So will a 1"5/16 really work? He has sockets for his tractors that go up to 2"

The two stores I looked at had 34mm sockets and 36 but not 35...

when i did a friends grandam, i used a 36mm. i got it from autozone, it was in stock. worked like a champion.
