Speaker Connections???

ok, stock rear speakers have two connections (one on one side of the magnet and one on the opposite side). Heres the problems: My dad gave me his speakers, but they only have one connection point. Also the new speakers don't fit in the bracket. They are 6 X 9 Sony XS-6930. These speakers were bought back when my dad was modding cars, so they're very old, but I had them in my previous car and they were suprisingly loud for their age. But anyway, what are my options???

the best thing i can tell you to do is cut the connectors off and just make them fit i.e. cutting and modifying....after all thats why they make audio so difficult to install is so some of us have jobs right....good luck.

i guess i'm confused. Our cars have two different connections for each rear speaker. The speakers I want to install have only one connection.

thats b/c your car is cursed with the monsoon amplifier which sucks. anyhow, you can either splice in prior to the amp or run new wire from your deck back to the speakers...as for the brackets...i know on both of my aleros i had to break a clip here and there to get them in there...but they go

Ok, I had a couple of hours to spare before work. I got some speaker wire and ran it directly from the cd reciever to my 3-way speaker. Unfortunately I only had time to do the left speaker. I tested it out and it work, partially. I couldn't get any bass, even when I turned the bass up on the equalizers and sent the music to the back. I tried changing the wires thinking I got the + and - mixed up. Nothing changed. I had these speakers in my other car and they thumped real good, so I know their not damaged. What did I do wrong or didn't do at all???

well.....im sorry that i didnt tell you about the factory amplifier....good thing someone caught that....what i always say about factory amplifiers....JUNK GET RID OF IT!!....my suggestion would be to replace all the wiring with new stuff and replace all the speakers...use an amplifier for the four or six speakers...then just add a sub and amp...plenty of clarity with an amplified system and the bass that you are looking for.

thats exactly what i was planning to do, but until the funds come in does anyone have an answer for my bass loss?? its just straight wire from a kenwood cd player. theres no amp in the process. It should have enough power to give it some form of bass. thanks for everyones help so far.

you said that its not damaged at all...but just to make sure take a ohm meter to it and check to see if theres power to it, i had the same problem with a sub and i took it to the car audio place down the road from me and they hooked the ohm meter up and instead of reading 4 ohm it read something like .2ohm and so it was junk..

if u dont know how to hook up subs get someone else to do it or read up on it ohms can be fun ohm loads depends on you subs and also your amp if ur subs can run .5 ohms and you amp can only run 2 your going to be in for some trouble

Well, I don't have a sub yet but the info will come in handy later when I get one. These are rear speakers I'm dealing with. I'm thinking that it might not work right because I only have one hooked up. I also went out and got a 10 gauge spool of wire. The speakers can put out 160 Watts so maybe the 16 gauge I was using just wasn't enough. I wanted to upgrade anyway. I'm gonna go install, and see if anything makes a difference. Input is appreciated. thanks all

O and yes I plan on amping them later on too!!

speakers do not "put out power" they handle power (root mean squared or peak power) which is actually heat that they can handle not actual "power" what a speaker puts out is db (decibles) so it shouldnt matter what AWG wire you use. its all the same unless you are putting alot of power to a sub or something.

I have the speakers hooked up finally. I still don't have any bass. A new problem now is my mp3 player won't work. I have it hooked up to aux cables, and it worked before I cut the wires for the rear speakers. It's like the cd reciever doesn't even know its there. any ideas??

You should seriously reconsider telling people this. That wire is transfering all that "power". Current will burn a wire that's too small real quick.
The 10 gauge he got is kinda overkill. The 16 should be fine.

Update - fixed the MP3 player problem. I still don't have any bass. A friend of mine told me it might be the amplifier built into the cd reciever that doesn't work. I tried manually turning of the amp through the cd receivers menu. When I turned it off, no music played through the car at all. Whats up with that??? It should still play, right??? this is really starting to piss me off!!
