Cruise Control issues...maybe...

2000 oldsmobile alero 4dr sedan, 2.4L, A/T
ok not sure if anybody has ever experienced this before but ill try my best to explain...with cruise control switch in OFF position no problems, if it is in ON position or if im using cruise control My "TRAC OFF" light comes on, as well as the SES light, The engine will idle HARD.. and have major hesitation, on top of that, when this issue happens, i am not able to accelerate the car past 3500rpm, and it has problems switching gears. and it will stay like this, until i put the cruise switch in OFF position and turn the car off for awhile, it is an intermittent problem that started last november on my way back to oklahoma from mass, ive been too afraid to even put the switch to ON to see if it still does it. Any ideas??

swag - If that cruise control uses engine vacuum then it could have a bad diaphragm resulting in a vacuum leak when you turn on the cruise. If not; I got nothing.

Vacuum cruise hasn't been used much in with GM since around '95.
