I've never had the dash apart in one of these cars before. So how do I take the dash apart in my 2000 Alero GLS Coupe ?? I'm debating on paying a shop too install it, but I prefer doing it all myself. Anyone have pics of a stereo install in a Alero ???

to get to your stereo.. just remove shift knob (theres a plastic C-clip on the handle holding it in) .. pull up on the shifter trim piece (disconnect light and trac off button). Then pull on the trim piece around the radio/ac..etc then you just unscrew the 3 bolts that on the radio.

actually its a metal c-clip and i found that it's easy if you pull up on the cup holder after the shifter is removed. everything else aftermath said pretty much applies, there are two metal clips on the top trim piece on either side of where you would insert a CD, they can be a pain, prying with a small screwdriver may help, but try not to damage anything.

yea, catch the clip with your fingernail or jeweler screwdriver and it slides right out... then the shift knob easily slides off... man, i cant imagine workin on any of that stuff with the shifter still on. hehe

trust me it is in there, take a thin tipped slotted screwdriver and stick it in the slot that the C clip should be in as close to the top of the slot as you can get it. now that you have it in there pull the screwdriver handle up towards you which should push the tip down, hopefully it will catch the edge of the Clip and you can pull it out and it may take a pretty good amount of force to get it out.
