Do a search. There have been a few guys over the years that put in some car pc's. A few had some tutorials.

I haven't done it, but I sure thought about it. Wireless capabilities so I could park in my driveway and transfer songs to my car = AWSOME.
I wanted to do an overhead LCD screen, with GPS and junk, but I think I may have been getting too ambitious. I mean, I would need a mouse and keyboard and blah blah blah.
If I could do it cheaply, I would be in still.

I very well probably will have close to that setup done soon that your talking about Jiffy...although for what I paid for my basic setup you could have probably two carputers, but I wont go there....but im definetely lookin at a gps system and the wireless capability is the best of it all

I want to have mine installed in the dash board, but I guess the install is going to be way too custom.
Also looking for GPS - is the best, and audio/video functions.
Currently there are two choices - one is from autonode ( cost about $2000, but looks perfect), and the other is http://indashpc.org, which is much cheaper, but not so good looking
Still thinking...

Heres what I did with my monitor. I did a little cutting of the casing of the monitor and epoxied mounting tabs from a radio mount kit to the side. Did a little bondo and paint and this was the final result.

when did that happen?
They can be modified you just end up voiding the warrenty or you can modify another case and save the original for warrenty repair. Although the one i sold wy3134 had been modified to much the be returned.

Try this or this for your pc basis, and the best part is they fit under your passenger seat. Plus you don't need an inverter as they run on 19V dc so they can be run by this and survives crank.

wow. I tested it before i shipped it and it worked. was power hooked up properly or with correct power voltage. If power is hooked up wrong than they are know to do that.

Hey that was a fair price I had much more money invested in parts alone, plus all the time invested in just the screen alone. If you want I could probibly take a look at the screen and throw it on the testers to see what went wrong.

To Aleromaster:
Your install looks so complete! I am guessing how much time did you spend on that!
I am still thinking that having PC in the dash is the most convinient way for the Car PCs.
Also which software do you use, guys?

Aleromaster, what kind of software do you have?
To cut the touchscreen means to kill the warranty, right?

At the begining i was running win me (bad idea for the car) and media car software (availible on mp3.com). I later switched to win 2000 pro and frodoplayer ( also availible on mp3.com) I switch to the later frontend software because of better flexability and also lack of support for media car. When I sold my car it was running xm, nav, dvd, mp3's, fm, game roms, note pad with voice recognition, wireless internet when availble, and dial up through cell phone when wifi was unavailible. would of put it in the new monte but I enjoy having the onstar and didn't feel like purchasing the addapters to keep it. That and i felt like leaving the new car stock for a while and money was more important than flash. I am planning on building a new system soon.
For the second question Yes you cut you void, but since the screens come from Hong Kong warrenty was flackey anyway.
