Just Curious on ...CAI????

Guys, do cold air intakes REALLY make a difference, I mean, I do not want to loose more bottom end. My dad is a mechanic, he looked at the stock intake and thinks that putting in a CAI would pretty much be worthless. He says for every 10 degrees in engine temp drop, our cars would gain 1.7 horsepower at most (used 3.4 liter size for calculation). So, I dont want to buy a CAI, do a bunch of work, and have a little or ZERO difference in power!!

I mean logically, by putting in a CAI you will gain top IF ANY, but loose bottom end..... correct? Also, Warm air intakes are worthless. How can warm air EVER be better than cold air, makes zero sense. IF you are drawing in warm engine air, you will loose power, not gain... EVER???

Your guys thoughts...and if you notice ANY power gains with a CAI!

CAI provides colder air which is higher in oxygen and the engine thrives on oxygen, increases hp by 5-20 depending on which filter and set up u buy, and improves gas milage

i gained 15whp with a wai, exhaust and ported manifolds. a wai gives quicker throttle response than a cai since the air moves a shorter distance and is easier to draw in. not only are you getting cooler air with a cai but you are also flowing a lot more air into the engine. even the cai piping is shorter than the stock baffled crap.

BLUF: a cai is worth it.

has anyone every tried a true ram air intake? Say for instance, make a pipe going to a front or side vent on the fender put some filters in and make sure there's no way that water can get into the engine in large amounts.

I would think that would be a good idea... although if you wanted to do a really nice setup you would pry have to change out the hood and somehow hook up a CAI in a way that it goes up to the opening.

Yes CAI's make a difference. (so do WAI because of sheer volume) In both performance and sound as stated above, but also there prolly the best first performance mod you can install on your car. There relatively cheap for the improvments they make. Also redrider you make it sound like its alot of work to install. It isnt, it will take you 1/2 hour tops, unless your blind. As for engine temperature, you dont get power from CAI's by making your engine cooler. You get more power because colder air is denser and has more oxygen molecules. With more air in the cylinders, there will be a greater power output when the A/F mixture combusts. Anyways, if you havent bought an intake yet, do so. You will like what you see/hear.
