Double Dins are a perfect fit actually. There is no real reason to pay the extra money unless you seriously dont like how the mounting kit looks.

It should fit, but in my opinion it looks ugly. You'd definetly need a dark interior to even begin to make it look half decent.
In my opinion, if you are going to a double din sized system, get one that has a screen that you can watch video on, and has all touch controls. Add Navigation if you can afford it. That's what i am shooting for.

^thats why i sent single din. all the doubles (w/o going all out for a high end touch screen) are hideous.

Stock Head Unit
The head unit itself will only push 150 - 200 watts. I haven't looked at mine too closely, still stuck with a freakin tape deck for the time being.

Double din screens take modification to the bezal. It's better to with a single din flip out screen... I have the new Jensen 7.5" Touch and I accessed the hidden menu, so I could watch dvd's while driving and without having a toggle switch.

Tape Deck
Unfortunately my Alero came with a tape deck. I think it's a double din. I'll take a snapshot of it and post when I get a chance. Do they make a bezel for just the din and a halves? My head unit from the Malibu is a din and a half, but it seems too wide for the bezel, and too short.
