I got to agree it doesn't look very good...but this is a test run..now you can go back to the drawing board and make it better. Think about a different material other then wood. Good Luck...I like your creativity!

what I find funny is everyone keeps telling him to go to best buy or walmart to get the install kit, when he said there was none available locally.

Really though, it does look a little rough, but hey, its in your car, so as long as you like it that's all that matters.

Its not such a horrible idea, but the execution is terrible.
Can I make some suggestions?
First start with a quality plywood.
Next use a finer blade in the jig saw, cut straighter lines.
Second, dont use that awful paint. Instead invest in a small piece of carbon fiber- or weave graphite. You will need the proper resins also.
That would make it look a lot better.

Cleaner cuts, and some more thought would have made it look better.

I still want to know how that is mounted in there?
This idea has potential especially for those of you that are switch happy..this is a possible solution, but like Ryan said...you just have to work on the execution.

Even if it's cut right, it's still off center.

I'm curious at to where you got the plywood from, since I'm reasonably sure that WalMart doesn't sell that either.

you can always order things like this online. you should be using a kit designed for the car. it's not custom if somebody already makes the same part in a better design. sorry bud, not trying to discourage you.

its actually a mounted by a 1/4" piece that goes from the front of the bezel to the back of the metal support in the dash. and for everyone else like i said it was ruffed in and no i didnt sand it just wanted to see how it looked. i am now looking into a fiberglass version of this to see how it looks.
and for everyone that keeps saying go to walmart and get one i looked they didnt have one to fit my alero and i really dont feel like buying one online
