well, the range is dwindling everyday on this thing. I used to be able to lock/unlock my car from across the parking lot, and now I have to be 5 spaces or less from my car for it to work.
My question: what kind of batteries do I need for this thing, before I open it up and potentially break the casing?
Thanks!

just open it to find out or look at your owners manuel. There should be a place to open it on near the ring.

all the auto stores have them around the counter, walmart should have them too... probably around the camera section.

thanks!
PS: I would have no idea how to open that f***er up if I didn't ask about the battery too. I would have thought I would have to pry it open from the top (near the Lock/Unlock buttons).

Just here because I need a new motherboard battery and checking around I do see that it's the same battery for the key FOB, so I should buy a pack of them, since my 1999 still has the original batteries in the FOB.

Information is just as applicable as today! Plus it was the only thread that referenced CR2032, which is the FOB battery. Since mine are originals, Perhaps I would get better range with a new battery.

nice and I'll throw this in too: I had my battery holder come loose from the circuit board from just carrying it around and stuff, so imagine my surprise when I go to the car and the button won't work (I thought the car battery died, later I found out when the car battery dies it auto unlocks the car door) So I opened the case to the fob and the battery holder fell out and I said something along the lines of "Great!!"
If this happens to you it is an easy fix, grab your soldering iron and a desoldering tool. Get rid of all the old solder and then place a bead of solder onto the contact point on the board, then lay the holder on the bead you could leave some of the old solder to help with this stage I guess, then solder the other contact point and your done just let it cool down (takes probably half a minute) and then put the battery in and close it up.
